Pest Control Spray vs. Fumigation, Do You Know the Difference?
In the pest control industry, terminology matters.
One of the most common misunderstandings? Using the word "fumigation" as a catch all term for any pest control treatment.
While widely used, "fumigation" has a very specific meaning and it's not the same as general pest control spray or residual treatments.
At Perla Hygiene Solutions, we believe in educating customers and the public to avoid confusion and ensure the best possible service.
General Pest Control Spray Treatments (Residual Treatments)
Most common method for homes, offices, restaurants, etc.
Liquid sprays, baits, or gels applied to surfaces like walls, cupboards, skirtings, cracks, crevices, and gardens.
Leaves a residual effect – continues working over time.
Pests are controlled upon contact with treated surfaces.
This is NOT fumigation.
Used for: Cockroaches, ants, bedbugs, flies, fleas, termites, mosquitoes, and rodent bait stations.
Always ensure your Pest Control Operator holds a valid license.
Fumigation
A specialized process using gaseous chemicals (fumigants) in an enclosed space.
Applied to buildings, ships, soil, grain, or stored products.
Gas penetrates cracks, wood packaging, and hard-to-reach areas.
Kills all life stages of the pest.
Requires hermetic sealing and clear warning signs to restrict entry.
Followed by thorough ventilation before re-entry.
Only a licensed Pest Control Operator with the correct Field of Fumigation on their certificate can perform fumigation.
Always verify the license is valid.
Bottom line: Using the right terminology protects both customers and service providers. Let's raise the standard – one correct term at a time.
