KNOW YOUR RIGHTS AS A DOMESTIC WORKER
The national minimum wage for domestic workers in South Africa is R30.23. This mandatory baseline is equally to all domestic workers, housekeepers , Gardners, caregivers and nannies , and went effect on 1 march 2026
*Daily minimum: R120.92 per day (If you work four hours or less , you must still get paid for four hours.
*Weekly minimum: R1360. 35 per week (based on a standard 45 -hours weekly)
* Monthly minimum: R5 894 , 40 per month (based on a 45 - hours week over 4 , 333 weeks)
Remember: breaks and lunches are always UNPAID, working hours . You only getting paid for hours you actually work .
If you are being paid less than the minimum wage right now - your employer is breaking the law
-The minimum wage increases every year . Make sure your salary is reviewed and updated by your employer annually.
