What is a grease trap?
A trap is a small reservoir built into the wastewater piping a short distance from the grease producing area.
Baffles in the reservoir retain the wastewater long enough for the grease to coagulate and rise to the surface.
The grease can then be removed and disposed properly.
Grease Traps are used to reduce the amount of fats, oils and greases (FOG’s) entering the main sewers.
Simply, they are boxes within the drain that flows between the sinks in a kitchen and the sewer system.
Grease Traps only have waste water flowing through them and are not served by any other drainage system i.e. Toilets.
There are a variety of different grease traps available in different materials, such as Stainless Steel, Plastic, Concrete, and Cast Iron and in capacity's ranging from 35 litres to 45,000 litres.
Grease Traps can be placed above ground, below ground, inside the kitchen or outside the building.
