If your site is 𝗙𝗦𝗦𝗖 𝟮𝟮𝟬𝟬𝟬 certified, here is a heads up.

Version 7 of the scheme was released on 1 May 2026, and it moves to the new 𝗜𝗦𝗢 22002:2025 prerequisite programme standards. Pest control is one of those prerequisite programmes.

Your current certificate stays valid until your site does its transition audit. But the best time to check that your pest programme records are complete, with the site map, device list, monitoring results and trend reports, is before the transition, not during it.

Quick one for anyone running a food premises.

R638 does not just say "deal with pests if they show up." It requires two specific things: your premises must be pest proof using the best available method, and you must have effective, ongoing measures in place to prevent and eliminate pests, not a once-off call-out.

An inspector will ask to see the proof: a current, documented pest control report from a registered pest control company.

If you do not have one on file right now, that is worth sorting out before someone else asks for it.

Ever wonder how weevils end up in packaged dry goods before anyone sees a single insect? Pests like the maize weevil and the Indian meal moth spend most of their early life hidden inside the product itself or in gaps around the storeroom. A technician walking past will not catch them until it is too late.

𝗙𝗦𝗦𝗖 𝟮𝟮𝟬𝟬𝟬 moved to Version 7 in May 2026, and your pest control file is part of what gets audited.

Here is why that matters for pest control. Pest management is a prerequisite programme, and Version 7 adopts the revised ISO 22002 prerequisite standards. 𝗜𝗦𝗢 𝟮𝟮𝟬𝟬𝟮-𝟭:𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 replaced the 2009 specification that a great many pest files were originally built around.

The dates are fixed. Version 6 audits may only be delivered until 30 April 2027. Upgrade audits run from 1 May 2027 to 30 April 2028.

That is enough time to fix a pest file properly. It is not enough time to leave it.

If nobody has opened your pest documentation since the day it was set up, that is where your gap will be.
