๐Critter of the Week ๐
So folks, we are starting a little series whereby we do a little posts every week on our fellow creepy crawlies, just to do a bit of education on why they are destructive, how to spot them and how we deal with them through eco-friendly means. Our first little invaders are an all year round issue and cause quite a bit of damage:
TERMITES
These little creatures may be small but they can cause a huge amount of irreversible damage to buildings and structures. They primarily survive off of cellulose which is actually the wood in your roof trusses, garden, wooden panels, cupboards and flooring. Left unchecked, this little army can devour an entire house structure and garden.
Those annoying flying ants that are attracted to light and apparently taste like peanut butter? Those are Termite babies, and that is how they spread around infesting household to household. Their lifespan is approximately 2 years but their queen can live up to 25 years!!!
How to recognize them:
They have whitish bodies and brown heads with very strong mandibles. They primarily live underground in social communities and intricate nests, but often, you can spot mud like tunnels on walls or wood that has a thin layer on top but most of underneath is eaten away with mud like substance left behind.
Treatment: Drill and Inject treatments, where eco-friendly, targeted Termite poisons are pumped into the ground by force to reach the nest or network of channels, OR by fumigation treatment.
