At Urban Bees, our hearts are full this Christmas Day. While many are unwrapping gifts, we are reflecting on the greatest gift we received all year: your trust.

To every person who found a hive in their garden, their roof, or their workplace and chose to pick up the phone and contact us - thank you. In that one phone call, you made a choice. You chose compassion over convenience. You chose life over extermination. Because of you, a colony that might have been lost was instead given a second chance to thrive, to pollinate, and to be cared for in the safety of our apiary.

Our passion for these bees goes beyond beekeeping; it’s about being their voice in an urban world. Every time you contact us for a safe removal and relocation, you aren't just calling a business - you are becoming a guardian of nature. You are the reason these bees are humming in the warm sunshine today, protected and free.

🌸 Hap-BEE Spring, South Africa! 🐝

The first day of September is here... And with it comes that unmistakable joy in the air. The mornings are warmer, gardens and parks are bursting back to life, and all around us, people and nature are shaking off winter’s rest.

It’s the season to dance in the sun, braai with friends, swim in rivers and lakes, and breathe in the freshness of new beginnings. Everywhere, new life is emerging - little ones, blossoms, and busy bees ready for a season of abundance.

For the bees, this is the moment they’ve been waiting for: the first flowers, pollen to carry home, and queens beginning to lay their summer workers. It’s a beautiful reminder to us all - rebirth, energy, and connection are flowing again.

🐝 A simple note from the bees: Don’t cut your grass just yet. Those first dandelions, clovers, and wild blooms are a vital early food source that helps colonies recover after winter.

🐝 What’s All That on the Window? .... It’s Bee Poo (Yes - Really!)

When bees get trapped indoors, often because someone blocks their exit, they panic and try to escape toward the light. In the chaos, they end up pooping on windows and walls. Those yellow-brown splatters? That’s bee faeces. It’s totally natural, but a sure sign they were stressed and desperate to get out.😢

And when bees are stressed, they also become much more defensive. I was stung in the face within 5 minutes of opening the ceiling - they were understandably on high alert. But the moment they sensed I was there to help, they calmed down and became surprisingly well 'bee-haved'. 🐝

So here’s the takeaway:
🚫 Don’t block their entrance
🚫 Don’t spray them with Doom
✅ Just call us — we’ll safely remove and relocate the colony with minimal harm.

Let’s give the bees a better home, not a dead end.
