It's important to clean and maintain irons because their soleplates (the bottom of an iron) can become sticky, dusty, and oily.

…so, how to clean a flat iron, you ask? You’re at the right place to find out!

1. Use baking soda and water to clean an iron’s soleplate.
This method is a great way to dissolve any gunk that made itself at home on your iron! All you need to do is mix some baking soda and a little bit of water to create a paste.

Then, rub this paste on the iron’s soleplate by using a soft brush or towel to scrub. Simply use water to wipe it away. Make sure the paste is completely wiped away and let the iron dry before use.

2. You can use a newspaper.
Heat up the iron at the highest setting and wear oven mittens to protect your hands from the heat. Scrunch up some newspaper and use it to scrub the iron’s soleplate. That’s all!

3. Salt it up!
Sprinkle a generous amount of salt on a sheet of paper. Then, run the warm iron over that sheet of paper, which assists in removing stains and other gunk. Run the iron a few times, then unplug the iron to let it cool. Once the iron is cool, wipe away the salt with a dry and soft cloth.

Whether used for camping, sleepovers, or both, sleeping bags need to be washed from time to time.

Fortunately, sleeping bags can be easily laundered in a washing machine, but check the label for care instructions.

Sleeping bags with down filling can be washed in the same manner as synthetic-filled sleeping bags, but down filling requires a specialty detergent like Nikwax Down Wash.

Down cleaners are formulated to protect the naturally occurring oils that give feathers their water-repellent qualities.

It is also important to note that sleeping bags should not be washed in a top-loading machine with a center agitator, as the fins on the agitator can shred a sleeping bag's outer lining.

Finally, when washing a sleeping bag, regardless of the type of fill, avoid using fabric softener, bleach, or bleach alternatives.
