Dave's dad worked as a mechanic back in the day. He popped into the workshop recently to fit some brakes (himself), and we grabbed the chance to capture a few father-and-son anecdotes on camera, including Dave's first lesson in mechanics (a painful one!), at age 5.

The best build isn't the one with the most gear.

It's the one where everything has a job, nothing's wasted, and you can be packed and on the road in under half an hour.

Overlanding isn't glamping on wheels.

You're not trying to fit every convenience into a vehicle that now weighs more than it can handle.

The extra drawer system, the third recovery board, the rooftop tent with everything but a built-in chandelier...

None of it makes you more capable out there.

If anything, it makes you slower, heavier, and harder to extract when things go sideways.

If your vehicle feels like a storage unit instead of a touring machine, something's wrong.

The goal is a practical setup that works for the road, not a pimp-my-rig that looks flashy in the driveway.
