Every school day, while learners are focused on lessons, friendships, sport and everything that comes with growing up, there are people working behind the scenes to help keep their environment clean and hygienic.

This National Cleaning Week, we want to recognise the Kusasa teams working across the schools we service.

From classrooms and bathrooms to shared spaces and high-touch areas, their work forms part of creating an environment where learners and staff can focus on what they are there to do.

Waste management isn't one-size-fits-all ♻️

Where does your waste go after your cleaning team collects it?

For businesses operating across different facilities, there isn't always one answer.
At Kusasa Cleaning, our teams work across a wide range of client environments, and waste-management requirements can differ from site to site.

At some sites, our cleaning teams form part of the client's existing waste-management programme, following the processes established for separating and handling different waste streams.

In other instances, certain waste is returned to our own facility for appropriate disposal. This includes items such as fluorescent light bulbs, which require different handling from everyday general waste.

That's an important part of professional contract cleaning that isn't always visible.

The cleaning process needs to fit into the way the facility operates.

For facilities and operations teams, that raises some worthwhile questions:

In professional cleaning, water is essential. How we use it matters too.

At Kusasa Cleaning, responsible water use starts with the everyday methods our teams are trained to apply.

Our spray-and-wipe system, the way cleaning cloths are folded, rotated and rinsed, and the use of pulse mops are examples of the practical methods we use to manage water more responsibly while maintaining professional cleaning standards.

Individually, these actions may seem small.

But when cleaning takes place every day across commercial environments, small actions repeated consistently can make a meaningful difference.

It’s National Cleaning Week from 14 September to 18 September 2026!

This week, we're celebrating the people, practices and progress behind professional cleaning. 🎉

As part of the wider professional cleaning community, we are using this week to take you behind the scenes at Kusasa.

Spring cleaning, according to the people who do this for a living. 🌱

Spring is here, and while the flowers are blooming and the trees are turning green, it is also a good time to give our spaces some extra attention.

So, we went straight to the people who know cleaning best: our Operations team.

We asked them to share some of the practical knowledge they have gained through years of working in the cleaning industry, from the areas that are often overlooked to choosing the right products for the job.

One thing became clear: professional cleaning is not simply about cleaning more. It is about understanding what to clean, how to clean it and what to use.

Lungi joined Kusasa Cleaning as a Team Leader. Today, she is a Receptionist with administrative duties.

What happened in between? Growth. The kind that comes from showing up every day and being supported by a management team that genuinely invests in its people.

In her time at Kusasa, Lungi has built skills she did not arrive with: teamwork, communication, computer literacy, procurement knowledge and a deep understanding of an industry she has grown to love.

When asked whether she has enjoyed being part of the cleaning industry, her answer was simple: “Being with Kusasa, I see that they encourage growth in everyone. With the support of management I have learnt a lot. So yes.”

She is more than an employee, meet Theresa Seema, a wonderful woman that lights up our offices each day. 💙

Tharesa started at Kusasa in 2016. She initially sought to be a cleaner, but was pleasantly surprised when offered a role at reception. Over the years she has expanded her knowledge and skills to operate alongside our payroll team.

Her delightful positive attitude brings joy into our offices and thus we thank her for joining our mission. We are proud to have her on the Kusasa Team.

Bernice brings an unexpected background to Kusasa. Before moving into an office environment; she spent three years managing a coffee and curio shop, handling everything from recipe tweaks to daily operations. Food service teaches you how to stay calm and consistent when things get busy, and that's exactly the energy she brings to her role today.

What she enjoys most is finding her rhythm and learning the ropes as she supports the team and that quiet, reliable dedication is exactly why she deserves this month’s feature.
