A Proud Moment for Emakheni Group!

We are delighted to share that our Founder and Managing Director, Portio Nkosithandile Dlamini, has been appointed to the Chemical Engineering Departmental Advisory Board at Durban University of Technology (DUT) for a three-year term.

DUT played an important role in Portio's journey as a Chemical Engineer, making this appointment a particularly meaningful full-circle moment.

With experience spanning Chemical Engineering, manufacturing and entrepreneurship, Portio will bring her industry and business experience to the Advisory Board, contributing to the development of future Chemical Engineers and strengthening the connection between academia and industry.

Spring has sprung. It is a new season. 🌻

After being quiet on social media for some time, Emakheni Group - Pty Ltd is pleased to step back into this space with a moment that is very close to our hearts.

Our Managing Director, Portio Nkosithandile Dlamini, recently had the privilege of returning to Durban University of Technology (DUT), an institution that played an important role in shaping her journey as a Chemical Engineer. The occasion was especially meaningful as she delivered the Keynote Address at the Chemical Engineering Student and Staff Awards.

Emakheni Group is deeply grateful to the DUT Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment for the opportunity for our Managing Director to return, reconnect with academics, industry colleagues and students, and contribute to shaping the next generation of Chemical Engineers.

Standing before the students was both humbling and meaningful. Portio spoke about resilience, courage, continuous learning, leadership and entrepreneurship, and the responsibility we have to use our knowledge, opportunities and experiences to create meaningful impact.

She also encouraged the academic staff on the important role they play in preparing tomorrow’s engineers — not only academically, but holistically, by developing their personal growth, emotional intelligence and leadership capabilities.

One message she shared with the students was:

“Your qualification is not the destination. It is the foundation for the journey ahead.”

Returning to DUT years later, this time as an industry professional and entrepreneur, was truly a full-circle moment. It was a reminder that our journeys are not always linear. There are seasons of learning, building, challenges and growth — and sometimes, we need to pause and look back to appreciate just how far we have come.

As we step into this new season, we look forward to greater visibility, meaningful connections, collaboration and opportunities to contribute across the Manufacturing, Industrial and Empowerment sectors.

A new season. A grateful heart. A renewed sense of purpose.
