Attempted Theft from Motor Vehicle – Florida Road Area
Date: 3 January 2026

Ensure Security responded to an attempted theft from a motor vehicle during the afternoon of Friday, 3 January 2026, along Florida Road.

At approximately 16:35, Ensure Security monitoring personnel observed two suspects attempting to break into a parked motor vehicle. During the incident, a vehicle window was damaged; however, the suspects were disturbed before gaining entry, preventing the theft from being completed.

The suspects fled the scene shortly thereafter in a motor vehicle parked nearby.

No injuries were reported.

Ensure Security officers followed up by identifying and contacting the vehicle owner to inform her of the incident and provide assistance.

The South African Police Services were notified; however, SAPS did not attend the scene within the expected timeframe.

The vehicle owner later proceeded to the police station independently to open a criminal case.

Ensure Security will continue to assist should further information become available.

Robbery from Person Followed by Swift Apprehension – Durban CBD

Durban – Late on Tuesday evening, Ensure Security responded to reports of a robbery from person in the Durban Central Business District.

Ensure Security response teams were approached by a male victim who reported that he had been robbed at what he believed to be gunpoint while standing outside his vehicle.

The suspect reportedly fled the scene in a motor vehicle.

Response teams immediately initiated patrols in the surrounding area and, with the assistance of additional Ensure Security units, successfully located and intercepted the suspect vehicle a short distance away.

A suspect identified by the victim was apprehended at the scene. A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of the victim’s stolen property, including his wallet.

An imitation firearm was also located inside the vehicle.

The South African Police Services attended the scene, took custody of the suspects, and recovered additional items that had been discarded prior to arrest.

The imitation firearm was later confirmed to be a pellet gun.
Upon arrival at the police station, the victim indicated that he no longer wished to proceed with opening a criminal case, as his belongings had been recovered.

Medical Emergency Following Pedestrian Accident – Berea Area, Durban

On Friday afternoon, Ensure Security responded to a medical emergency following a pedestrian-vehicle accident in the Berea area.

Ensure Security officers were alerted to the incident, which involved a pedestrian who had been struck by a motor vehicle while walking along the roadside.

Response teams attended the scene and ensured the situation was stabilised.

Emergency services were contacted; however, SAPS did not attend the scene. Metro Police officials responded, assisted in calming the situation, and facilitated the exchange of details between the parties involved.

An ambulance was requested independently by those on scene but did not arrive. As a result, the injured pedestrian was later transported to hospital by a family member for further medical attention.

Ensure Security continues to respond to medical and public safety incidents across the city and works alongside relevant authorities and partners to ensure assistance is provided where needed.

Vehicle Alert Linked to Robbery Followed Up – North Coast

Early on Christmas morning Ensure Security received information via local crime-prevention communication channels regarding a vehicle believed to be linked to a robbery, travelling southbound along the R102.

Ensure Security operational teams immediately initiated a coordinated search in the area. The vehicle in question was positively identified and safely stopped without incident.

A precautionary search was conducted, and no weapons were found.

The vehicle was subsequently escorted to a nearby police station, where it was handed over to the South African Police Services in connection with an existing case for further investigation.

No arrests were made at the scene, and the matter is now being handled by SAPS.

Public Nuisance Incident – South Beach Area

In the early hours of Christmas morning, at approximately 01:28, Ensure Security responded to reports of a public nuisance in the South Beach area, near the Metro Lodge.

Ensure Security response teams apprehended an adult male who was discharging what was later identified as a blank-firing imitation firearm into the air, causing alarm to members of the public in the vicinity.

The situation was swiftly brought under control, and the South African Police Services were immediately notified. SAPS members arrived on scene shortly thereafter, interviewed the suspect, and took him into custody for further investigation and processing at Point Road Police Station.

Ensure Security continues to maintain a visible and proactive presence across the beachfront and inner-city precincts, particularly during the festive season, to ensure public safety and rapid response to incidents that may pose a risk to residents and visitors alike.

Robbery Incident Reported – Morningside Area
Durban –

On Tuesday evening, Ensure Security responded to reports of a robbery from person at a commercial premises Florida Road in the Morningside area.

Ensure Security control room personnel observed suspicious activity via CCTV and immediately alerted officers on duty.

Tactical and area response teams were dispatched to the location to observe and assess the situation.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the victim, who reported that two suspects had approached and robbed him of his cellphone.

During the incident, the suspects abandoned the stolen property before fleeing the scene in a motor vehicle.

The cellphone was recovered at the scene.
The victim later declined to open a criminal case, and no further police action was requested at the time.

The suspects were not located and remain at large.

Business Housebreaking Incident Reported – Morningside Area

Durban – At approximately 16:20 this afternoon, Ensure Security received alerts of multiple alarm activations at a business premises in the Morningside area.

The initial alert indicated activity at an emergency exit door. Ensure Security officers were immediately dispatched to the scene and conducted a thorough inspection of the premises. During the inspection, it was discovered that a wall-mounted fan had been forcibly removed, indicating possible attempted housebreaking or tampering.

At the time of the response, no suspects were located, and no further damage or losses were immediately identified.

The client has been informed of the incident and will be attending the site for further assessment. In the interim, Ensure Security will maintain increased visibility and conduct random patrols in the area as a preventative measure.

Stolen Vehicle Alert Followed Up – Ballito Area

Ballito – On Monday afternoon, Ensure Security received information regarding a stolen motor vehicle alert for a white BMW reported stolen, with a case opened at a Durban police station.

The information was circulated via local crime-prevention communication channels, indicating that the vehicle’s tracking device may have been compromised.

Ensure Security operations personnel, working in collaboration with a private tactical response partner, immediately conducted a coordinated search of the area. The vehicle was subsequently located within the Ballito precinct.

A male in possession of the vehicle identified himself as the driver and stated that the vehicle belonged to a family member who was currently out of the country.

Due to the unavailability of a police recovery vehicle at the time, the driver was advised to obtain written confirmation from the vehicle owner and to proceed to the relevant police station for verification and clearance.

Attempted Theft from Motor Vehicle – Central Area

Durban – In the early hours of Thursday morning, Ensure Security Delta Teams on routine patrol responded to an incident involving an attempted theft from a motor vehicle in the Central operational area.

Upon arrival, officers found members of the public restraining a male suspect who had allegedly been caught attempting to remove a vehicle battery from a parked motor vehicle. Ensure Security officers immediately intervened, calmed the situation, and prevented further assault of the suspect.

The stolen property was recovered and returned to the vehicle owner. The owner declined to open a criminal case, and no further police intervention was requested at the time.

Business Robbery Reported – Central / South Region

Durban – Late on Wednesday evening, Ensure Security responded to reports of a business robbery at a commercial premises within the Central / South operational area.

Initial information indicated that multiple suspects, some armed and wearing balaclavas, forced entry into the premises. Security officers on duty were confronted and held at gunpoint while the suspects gained access to a storeroom area. The suspects reportedly used power tools to breach internal doors and removed a large quantity of stock before fleeing the scene via a rear access point.

Ensure Security immediately dispatched supervisory support and contacted the South African Police Services (SAPS) for assistance. Officers on scene secured the area, accounted for staff, and ensured no injuries were sustained.

SAPS later attended the scene, reviewed available CCTV footage together with the business owner, and initiated the necessary investigation. No personal belongings of staff were reported stolen during the incident.

Ensure Security continues to work closely with law enforcement and stakeholders to support investigations and enhance safety at commercial sites across the city.
