ANTS:
It's important to know that ants forage from their nest looking for food & water. They mark their routes/trails with pheromones in order for them to find their way back to the nest, food & water, if this pheromone trail is disturbed the foraging ants aren't able to find their way back to the nest. This will then alert the other ants in the nest something is wrong & the ants in the nest will either split up from the nest or start a process called budding. The whole life cycle will then be sped up & you in turn will now have a lot more ants to deal with.
If the pheromone trail is spayed with a chemical you will only kill about 5-10% (foraging ants) of the colony & start the budding process, achieving very little.
The ideal way to control ants is to feed them baits formulated from proteins & carbohydrates, they will then take the bait deep down into their nest to distribute by food sharing or tropholaxes. Doing this you are using the behaviour of the ant to control the ants by themselves.
Spraying a registered chemical directly into the ant nest by flooding the nest will also produce good results & be very effective.
REMEMBER you must take away the nesting site or material & remove the food and water source. This can only be done by focussing on hygiene and sanitation and excluding the ants from the structure.
ANT TREATMENT IS NOT A ONCE OFF TREATMENT, A FOLLOW UP WOULD NEED TO BE DONE AS ONE IS NORMALLY TREATING HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF ANTS.
