To hang your clothes out to dry on a warm, sunny day is all well and good, but there are always those laundry days in winter when it’s drizzly and overcast.

You know there is no chance your clothing will dry if you hang it up outside.
Use the iron and towel trick to speed things up.
Lay your article of clothing on an ironing board as if you are going to iron it.
Place a clean towel on top of your garment and iron the towel firmly on both sides using high heat.

This trick helps channel warmth into the fabric which absorbs excess moisture.

Tip: Never put a hot iron directly on a wet piece of clothing. This may damage the fabric, making it unwearable.

Scratchy bed sheets?

Make your own magic happen by throwing your lackluster sheets into the washer with one full cup of baking soda and ½ cup of vinegar, and running for one full cycle.

It works best if you start the wash on hot and then switch to cold during the rinse cycle. The results are ultra-soft sheets, and getting them won't break your back or your wallet.

NB: Put the baking soda in the detergent compartment and the vinegar in the fabric softener compartment.

Follow these simple steps to keep your activewear clean and smelling fresh.

✅ First, unpack
Leaving clothes wadded in a gym bag or tightly-packed basket can allow bacteria to grow. Take them out, shake them out, and let the air get to them until you’re ready to wash.

✅ Next, pretreat
If an ordinary wash just isn’t getting rid of the smell, pre-soak your clothing for a half hour in a 1:4 solution of vinegar and water.
Another effective natural method involves pre-soaking with a 1/2 cup of baking soda in a sink full of water.

Wash and dry as the label instructs.

Heat up the iron at the highest setting and wear oven mittens to protect your hands from the heat. Scrunch up some newspaper and use it to scrub the iron’s soleplate. That’s all!

✅ Salt it up!
Sprinkle a generous amount of salt on a sheet of paper. Then, run the warm iron over that sheet of paper, which assists in removing stains and other gunk.
Run the iron a few times, then unplug the iron to let it cool. Once the iron is cool, wipe away the salt with a dry and soft cloth.

For static-free loads of laundry, two or three inch-thick balls of aluminum foil should do the trick. Rip off a few sheets of foil, crumple them up tightly and toss them in your dryer.

Your clothes will come out static free, all due to an exchange of electrons.

When you hand wash your clothes, they take forever to dry unless you get a lot of water out of them.

Since you're dealing with delicates, you don't want to just wring them out. Instead, grab your fluffiest towel.

1. Lay the towel flat.
2. Put the garment or garments on the towel.
3. Roll it up tight.
4. Grab the ends and gently smack a few of your frustrations out by hitting the towel against something like your countertop.
5. Unroll and hang to dry.
No drips, and it's not going to hurt your delicates. Win!
