The combination of Louis Karol’s client base and contacts across the globe and Peerutin’s design and management skills has resulted in a proliferation of work for the merged practice. New projects are underway in the United Kingdom, Nigeria, Ghana, and Israel as well as locally in the Western Cape.
Louis Karol is one of the most eminent architects in South Africa. He opened his studio immediately upon graduating from UCT in 1952 and many of Cape Town’s landmarks are Louis Karol Architects’ buildings. Although Louis has retired, it has not stopped him from coming into the office to offer advice and design reviews and it is a privilege to have his involvement in the studio.
Peerutin Architects was founded in 1997 by Simmy and David Peerutin, following their return from working in London and New York.
The relationship between Peerutin and Karol has been a longstanding one: Simmy Peerutin worked at Louis Karol directly after graduation, his first role as a qualified architect; he and Eitan Karol studied architecture together at UCT.
The new company sees Dr Eitan Karol in the role of Director responsible for Business Development, while the core Peerutin leadership team continues to run the combined practice. Simmy Peerutin is Managing Director; David Peerutin is Director: Design, Tarryn Cohen is Director: Management and Francois Hugo is Director: Technical.
The newly bolstered Peerutin Karol draws on a wealth of shared experience and will continue to aim for nothing less than a world-class quality of service and design.
