If there is one thing that Covid-19 has done for me, it has been an enforced rest, the first proper break I had had since starting Marvellous Maids 24 years ago. It was absolutely Marvellous! 6 weeks of doing very little and realising that even if I would be in the poo, I would have plenty of company. Somehow responsibility was put on hold, at least during the hardest lockdown.
It was a time to reflect, to realign and to resurrect my enthusiasm for the business, some of which had been lost in the daily grind. I was able to look at Marvellous Maids objectively and plan how to not only get us back to normal but beyond. Slowly Marvellous Maids has come back to life, our workers all of whom were paid during lockdown have a new respect for their jobs. Our clients, too, certainly have a new appreciation for their housekeepers and domestic workers.
Many of our clients have been wonderful, paying us even though we were not able to provide them with services, helping to keep the business afloat and to keep food on the workers’ tables. A million thanks to them, from the bottom of my heart. I It’s been a while since I have contributed to this blog but it is time to tap the keyboard once again and pay tribute to our splendid, unfailingly cheerful domestic workers, gardeners and housekeepers who have adhered to the rules and kept each other safe.
