Average pH Levels of Household Cleaning Supplies:

Did you sleep or pay attention in your chemistry class?
You probably never thought chemistry could help you choose the best hand-wash.

The pH scale is used to determine how acidic or alkaline different solutions are.
The scale goes from 0 to 14.
Right in the middle is 7, considered to be neutral.
Anything below 7 is acidic.
But anything above 7 is considered alkaline.
Dish soap comes closest to being a neutral cleaner.

Why does this matter?
Alkaline solutions are better at cutting through dirt, grease, proteins, oils, and other organic items.
Acids are better for removing calcium, rust, and other minerals.

Chlorine Bleach: pH 11 to 13
Ammonia: pH 11 to 12
Oven Cleaner: pH 11 to 13
Tub and Tile Cleaner: pH 11 to 13
Borax: pH 10
Baking Soda: pH 8 to 9
Mild Dish Soap: pH 7 to 8 (Neutral Cleaner)
Stone Cleaner: pH 7 to 10
Vinegar: pH 3
Lemon Juice: pH 3
Toilet Bowl Cleaner: pH 1 to 3
