Every morning I rise before the kids, before the chaos. I make a hot cup of tea and sit in my dark living room, enjoying the silence. My self-care is intentional and I never take it for granted. My goal is to create more than functional space. My desire is for you to find joy and peace in your home. You can have all the beautifully labeled bins and boho minimalist decor but if your home smells like sweaty soccer cleats or cat box, we can’t chill. This is the trio that my husband calls “home.” It’s my most used diffuser blend. There are so many others that help clean the air (not just mask the smell). Don’t do a disservice to your lovely space by stinking it up.

Being organized is not just about a labeled pantry or perfectly folded clothing. It’s a state of mind, an inner peace. If you’re struggling to keep your home and life organized, start with a large well-placed family calendar. My kids know if it’s on the calendar, it’s set in stone. They know what to look forward to, and when and how to prepare. This helps them stay organized and helps keep Mommy sane. My work life is kept in a separate paper calendar (I’m having a hard time adjusting from paper to digital; I love putting pen to paper!).

Cleaning with kids doesn’t have to be painful. One of the most efficient tools I’ve created is the “does not belong” box (or bin, basket). Usually it’s a laundry basket in our home. As my kids clean a room this basket sits at the door. Everything that doesn’t belong in that room gets tossed in the bin. This prevents them from walking out of their room one item at a time (over and over, avoiding the actual cleaning). Their rooms get cleaned much more quickly and at the end they go around and put the things that didn’t belong where they do belong.
