Oven spills, drips and grime are an eyesore. They can be tough to clean up, especially if left untreated for a long time. It can quickly become a sticky, stuck-on mess that you dread seeing every time you open your oven door.
Baking soda and white vinegar are two great common household items that help keep these unsightly messes at bay and are a great way to keep your oven cleaner in between deep cleanings.
Start by removing the oven racks, thermometer and any loose debris. Simply sprinkle a light layer of baking soda in the bottom of your oven, being careful to avoid the heating coils. Spray white vinegar over the baking soda layer, allowing it to fizz. This process will help bring up grime, bits of food residue and drips. Wipe clean.
For more problematic grime and spills, create a paste of baking soda and water that can be easily spread. Spread the paste on all interior surfaces, again avoiding the heating coils. Let this mixture rest for a minimum of 12 hours or (ideally) overnight. Use a damp cloth or sponge to wipe away the dried paste. Spray white vinegar on any remaining spots and allow the fizz to loosen the residue. Wipe clean.
Making this routine a habit keeps your oven cleaner for longer and ensures a better cooking experience every time.
