🎣 ICYMI: 4.27 Pound State Record Hybrid Crappie Certified
🐟 The new state record hybrid crappie, weighing 4.27 pounds, and measuring 18.3 inches long with a girth of 16 inches, was caught by Jesse Miller of Middletown, Ohio. Mr. Miller caught his hybrid crappie April 1, 2026 while fishing near the Middletown Dam on the Great Miami River, using a spinning rod spooled with six pound test monofilament line and offering a minnow below a bobber. This fish marks the first entry into Ohio’s new state record fish category for hybrid crappie.
🤓 Fisheries biologists Kipp Brown and Mike Porto from Wildlife District 5 in Xenia confirmed the identification of a hybrid crappie, noting that hybrids are not unusual in water containing both species. Ohio’s record fish are determined on the basis of weight only and are certified by the Outdoor Writers of Ohio State Record Fish Committee with assistance from fisheries biologists from our agency.

Keeping water away from your home is just good advice. If your gutters are full, flower pots holding water, birdbath nearby… it may seem like yellow jackets are everywhere!! They need the water so look at creative ways to eliminate unnecessary water in and around your home. Subtle changes can yield big results!

“I’m not sure why the ants are coming in…”
I found this food wrapper stash in a bedroom window where ants had found their way inside.

So much of what we do every day is training and educating people on what causes insects to invade our space.

If you are experiencing issues with ants: take a walk around the perimeter of your place and look for evidence of why they are there. The number one reason is moisture.
