❓ FAQ Friday
What is IICRC Certification, and why does it matter?

If you've ever researched restoration companies, you may have seen the term IICRC Certified and wondered what it means.

The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) is a globally recognized organization that sets the standards for the restoration and cleaning industry. Their certification programs ensure technicians receive specialized training in the latest restoration techniques, safety procedures, and industry best practices.

At Beverly Restoration Services, we're proud to have IICRC Certified technicians on our team.

That means our technicians are trained to properly handle services such as:

💧 Water Damage Restoration
🦠 Mold Remediation
🔥 Fire & Smoke Damage Restoration
🏠 Structural Drying
🧼 Cleaning & Restoration Procedures

When you hire an IICRC Certified company, you can have confidence knowing your property is being cared for by technicians who have been trained to follow industry-recognized standards.

We believe continuing education and professional training are essential to providing our customers with the highest quality service possible.

🚨 Boil Water Advisory for Forsyth County Utilities

Due to a significant water main break, portions of Winston-Salem, Kernersville, Walkertown and Forsyth County are currently under a boil water advisory.

If you're in an affected area:
💧 Boil water for at least one minute before using it for:
• Drinking
• Making ice
• Brushing your teeth
• Food preparation
• Washing dishes

🥤 Bottled water may also be used until the advisory is lifted.

🚰 Residents are also encouraged to conserve water while crews work to repair the water main and restore normal service.

A quick reminder from Beverly Restoration Services:
Water main breaks don't always cause damage inside your home, but if you notice:
✔️ Water where it shouldn't be
✔️ A sudden drop in water pressure after service is restored
✔️ Discolored water accompanied by leaks
✔️ Damp walls, ceilings, or flooring

Don't ignore it. Addressing water damage early can help prevent more extensive repairs down the road.

Our team is available 24/7 if you experience water damage to your home or business.

👃 What Does Mold Smell Like?

One of the first signs of mold isn't always what you can see—it's what you can smell.

If you've noticed a persistent odor that won't go away, it could be hidden mold growing behind walls, under flooring, inside cabinets, or in other damp areas.

Mold is often described as:

🌧️ Musty or damp
🍂 Earthy
📦 Similar to wet cardboard or old books
🧦 Like damp socks or a wet basement

If that smell gets stronger after it rains, when your HVAC system is running, or after a plumbing leak, it's worth having it checked out.

Why does mold smell?

As mold grows, it releases tiny gases called microbial volatile organic compounds (MVOCs). These are what create that distinctive musty odor—and they can travel through your home even when the mold itself is hidden.

Don't ignore the smell.

Even if you can't see mold, the source could still be causing damage to your home over time. The sooner the issue is identified, the easier it may be to address before it spreads further.

If you've experienced water damage, a leak, or you've noticed a musty smell that just won't disappear, our team is here to help.

🦠 Mold Prevention Starts with Moisture Control

Mold doesn't just appear out of nowhere—it needs moisture to grow. The good news? There are simple steps you can take to help reduce the risk of mold in your home.

Here are 4 easy ways to help prevent mold growth:

💧 Control Humidity
Keep indoor humidity levels between 30% and 50%. Using a dehumidifier in damp areas like basements or crawl spaces can make a big difference.

🌬️ Improve Ventilation
Open windows when weather allows, and make sure your home has proper airflow—especially in areas that tend to stay damp.

🚰 Fix Leaks Promptly
Even a small drip under a sink or a slow plumbing leak can create the perfect environment for mold. Address leaks as soon as you notice them.

🛁 Use Exhaust Fans
Run bathroom and kitchen exhaust fans during and after showers or cooking to help remove excess moisture from the air.

🏡 A little prevention today can help you avoid a much bigger problem tomorrow.

If you've experienced water damage, noticed a musty odor, or think mold may already be present, don't wait. Our team can help identify the source of the moisture and recommend the best solution.

🦠 Mold Doesn't Just Grow—It Spreads.

A small patch of mold can quickly become a much bigger problem if the source of moisture isn't addressed.

Many homeowners don't realize that mold can grow:
🏠 Behind drywall
🪵 Under flooring
🚿 Around plumbing
🌬️ Inside crawl spaces and attics
💧 Anywhere moisture has been left untreated

That's why simply wiping away visible mold isn't enough. If the underlying moisture isn't properly identified and corrected, the mold is likely to return.

At Beverly Restoration Services, our mold remediation process focuses on:
✔️ Identifying the source of the moisture
✔️ Safely containing the affected area
✔️ Removing mold-damaged materials when necessary
✔️ Thoroughly cleaning and treating affected surfaces
✔️ Helping restore your home to a safe, healthy environment

If you've noticed a musty odor, discoloration on walls or ceilings, or recently experienced water damage, don't ignore the warning signs.

❓ FAQ Friday: What's the Difference Between Mitigation and Restoration?

Many people use the terms mitigation and restoration interchangeably—but they actually refer to two different phases of the recovery process.

💧 Mitigation

Mitigation is all about preventing further damage after an unexpected event like water, fire, or mold.

This may include:
✔️ Water extraction
✔️ Structural drying and dehumidification
✔️ Removing damaged materials
✔️ Smoke or soot cleanup
✔️ Mold prevention and containment

The goal is to stabilize the property and stop the damage from getting worse.

🏡 Restoration

Once the property is dry, safe, and stable, the restoration phase begins.

This is when your home or business is repaired and rebuilt to its pre-loss condition.

Restoration can include:
🔨 Drywall repair and replacement
🎨 Painting
🪵 Flooring installation
🚪 Trim, doors, and cabinetry
🏠 Rebuilding damaged areas

The goal is to make it look and function like the damage never happened.

Why does it matter?

Understanding the difference helps you know what to expect after a disaster. Mitigation comes first to protect your property. Restoration follows to bring it back to life.

At Beverly Restoration Services, we can help guide you through the entire process—from the initial emergency response to the final repairs—so you don't have to navigate it alone.

❓️FAQ Friday: How quickly should I call after water damage happens?

The short answer: IMMEDIATELY!

Water damage can spread fast, and the longer moisture sits, the more damage it can cause to flooring, drywall, cabinets, and other materials. Even if it doesn’t look severe at first, hidden moisture can lead to mold growth, odors, and costly repairs if it isn’t properly addressed.

At Beverly Restoration Services, we respond quickly to help assess the damage, begin drying, and work to prevent further issues before they get worse.

If you’ve had a leak, overflow, or water loss, don’t wait to “see if it dries on its own.” The sooner the drying process starts, the better.

Answer: False. ❌

Just because carpet feels dry on the surface doesn’t mean the water damage is gone. Moisture can stay trapped in the carpet pad, subfloor, baseboards, and even behind nearby walls. If that hidden moisture isn’t properly removed, it can lead to mold growth, odors, and long-term damage.

That’s why professional drying is so important after water damage. At Beverly Restoration Services, we use specialized equipment to find and remove hidden moisture—not just dry what you can see.

If you’ve had water damage and want peace of mind that it’s truly dry, give us a call.
