Happy Friday, we hope your day has been eventful—but hopefully NOT in the way ours was.
This morning, one of our trucks caught fire. Our crew had to immediately dump the entire load into the street to prevent the fire from spreading and potentially causing the truck to explode.
The cause? A lithium car battery that had been placed inside a trash bag and thrown into a garbage can.
Thankfully, our employees are trained for situations like this and reacted quickly. Their fast response prevented what could have been a catastrophic outcome for our crew, equipment, and surrounding property.
This serves as an important reminder that prohibited items are prohibited for a reason.
Prohibited items ⤵️❌
Batteries
Any pressurized tanks (examples: propane and aerosol)
Paint
Gasoline
Flammable chemicals
Hot ashes
Big stumps/logs
Automative products (examples: oil, antifreeze, tires)
and other hazardous materials/chemicals require special disposal to protect our employees, our equipment, and our community.
The good news is that old vehicle batteries are easy to dispose of properly. Both AutoZone and O'Reilly Auto Parts in Wi******er accept old batteries, and they'll even provide store credit for bringing them in. It's a safer option for everyone—and it may put a little money back in your pocket, too.
If you're ever unsure whether an item can be thrown away, please reach out to us. We'd be happy to help point you in the right direction for proper disposal.
Today could have ended very differently. We're grateful it didn't. We don’t think that this was done maliciously or out of negligence but that’s why we are constantly posting, educating and informing our community about the ins and outs of all things TRASH. 🗑️
The most important part is everyone is okay! Stay safe ❤️
