We recently completed the rough plumbing for a new basement bathroom in Covington.

While the home already had a builder-installed rough-in, additional drain, waste, vent, and water piping was needed to support the homeowner's planned layout and utility sink.

DBS pulled the required permit, completed the rough-in work, and coordinated inspections to keep the project moving forward.

This phase may not be the most visible part of the project, but it's the foundation that everything else will be built on.

We recently installed a new irrigation backflow preventer for a homeowner in Crestview Hills.

If you have an irrigation system, there are certain plumbing components you may never notice unless they need attention. A backflow preventer is one of them. Its job is to help protect the home's drinking water supply by preventing water from flowing the wrong direction through the system.

For this project, we installed a new 1-inch Watts backflow preventer and verified everything was operating properly before putting the system back into service.

It's not the most exciting piece of plumbing equipment, but it's an important part of keeping irrigation systems operating safely and helping protect water quality.

Most of the important parts of plumbing are hidden behind walls, underground, or tucked away where nobody sees them.

But those details matter.

Proper installation, quality materials, and attention to detail help plumbing systems perform reliably for years to come.

It's not always the flashy part of the job, but it's one of the things we take pride in every day.

We recently replaced a leaking lowboy water heater for a homeowner in a Cold Spring condo.

Unlike a standard water heater, a lowboy is a shorter unit designed to fit in spaces where ceiling height or utility room layout limits the available clearance. They're commonly found in condos and older mechanical rooms where a traditional water heater simply won't fit.

After confirming the existing tank had failed, we removed the old unit and installed a new 50-gallon lowboy water heater along with a new drain pan before placing the system back into service.

Water heaters often provide warning signs before failure, including moisture around the base of the tank, rust staining, or a reduction in available hot water. Catching those signs early can help homeowners plan for replacement before a leak becomes a bigger problem.

One thing we hear all the time is:

"I wasn't sure if I should call a plumber for that."

The truth is, we're always happy to answer questions and help homeowners understand what's going on with their plumbing. Sometimes it's a quick fix, sometimes it's a bigger repair, and sometimes it's just peace of mind.

If you've got a plumbing question, don't be afraid to ask.

A homeowner in Ryland Heights contacted us after experiencing a slow-draining shower following a remodeling project.

The homeowner had previously pulled a couple of screws out of the drain and was concerned additional screws may still be lodged somewhere in the piping. To get answers, we used a combination of a drain camera, drain cleaning equipment, and a magnet to thoroughly inspect the line.

The good news: we didn't find any additional screws in the drain.

Instead, we found the shower drain was partially blocked with hair and other typical drain debris. Once the line was cleaned, the shower was draining properly again.

Plumbing diagnostics can sometimes feel a bit like detective work. While the screws raised a reasonable concern, the real problem ended up being something much more common.

When a Burlington homeowner lost hot water, we found the culprit was an 11-year-old electric water heater that had reached the end of its service life.

We removed the old unit and installed a new AO Smith water heater along with a drain pan, expansion tank, and a few plumbing updates to bring everything back into shape.

Water heaters are one of those appliances most people never think about—until the morning there's no hot water left.

As water heaters age, efficiency declines and failures become more common. Replacing them before they leak can often prevent water damage and unexpected downtime.

When a homeowner in Highland Heights lost the ability to use any plumbing fixtures in their home, they gave us a call to investigate.

After evaluating the system, we found the existing grinder pump had failed. As we dug deeper into the installation, we also discovered the previous pump was not properly matched to the home's discharge piping and pumping requirements.

We replaced the failed equipment with a properly sized grinder pump designed for the system and verified everything was operating correctly before putting the home back into service.

Most homeowners never think about their grinder pump until it stops working. When these systems fail, sinks, showers, toilets, and laundry can all be affected because wastewater can no longer be moved to the sewer system.

We completed the installation and restored reliable service with equipment properly matched to the home's needs.
