When a grinder pump fails, wastewater has nowhere to go.

At this Bellevue home, we diagnosed a failed grinder pump and replaced it with a new Zoeller unit, along with a new float and check valve.

Grinder pumps are used when wastewater can’t flow to the sewer by gravity alone, so keeping that system working is pretty important.

Another grinder pump back in service. 🔧

Project Highlight: Sewer repair in Covington

This job started as a sewer backup, but once the line was cleaned and inspected, it was clear the problem went beyond a simple clog.

We excavated the affected area, safely opened the site, exposed the sewer line, and repaired the failed section before restoring the area.

Not every sewer issue can be solved with cleaning alone — sometimes the pipe itself needs to be repaired. This project is a good example of the larger sewer repair work we handle.

What is a PRV — and why does your home need one? 💧

A pressure reducing valve (PRV) is installed on your main water line to reduce the incoming water pressure to a safer, more manageable level before it reaches the plumbing throughout your home.

Too much water pressure can be hard on faucets, toilet fill valves, water heaters, supply lines and other plumbing components — and can contribute to leaks and premature wear.

At DBS, we generally recommend household water pressure in the 60–70 PSI range. It gives you good, strong water pressure without putting unnecessary stress on the plumbing system.

If your pressure seems unusually strong, fluctuates, or you’re replacing plumbing parts more often than you should, checking the home’s water pressure is a good place to start. 🔧

Need help finding and repairing a gas line problem? We can help. 🔧

At this Independence home, we found a cracked fitting on the black iron gas line where it entered the house.

We repaired the damaged section, then pressure-tested the gas piping to ensure the line was leak free. After our visit the homeowner was able to have Duke Energy restore their gas service.

From locating the problem to making the repair and testing the line afterward, gas piping repairs are part of what we do.

A leaking water heater was only part of the story on this one.

We replaced this failing 50-gallon natural gas water heater in Wilder and installed a new expansion tank. While removing the old heater, our technician also noticed signs that it had been backdrafting.

Rather than simply swapping the heater and moving on, we took the flue apart and cleared out accumulated dust and debris, then checked the vent from the roof to make sure there were no blockages.

By the time we wrapped up, the new heater was drafting properly and the homeowner knew what signs to watch for moving forward.

A nice reminder that sometimes the important part of a plumbing job is what you notice beyond the original problem. 🔧

A “frost-free” hose bib can still freeze and split. Here’s why.

Most homes in our area have frost-free hose bibs. They’re designed with the actual shutoff point farther inside the home, where it’s warmer. When you turn the faucet off, the water left in the outer portion can drain away — helping protect it from freezing.

But leave a garden hose connected and that water may not be able to drain properly. Water gets trapped in the stem, freezes, expands and can split the copper — just like the ones in these photos.

The tricky part is that you may not know there’s a problem until spring. Because the split is usually beyond the shutoff point, it may not leak until you turn the hose bib back on.

❄️ Reminder: Before freezing weather arrives, disconnect those hoses!
