I actually use the cast iron conditioning in my glass and stainless steel cookware right before adding in my food in place of a nonstick cooking spray.

Designed to be used and loved and designed to offer a healthier alternative to what’s found in other places. As always, these are not soy based products.

the Meishan pig is back home and nursing with her siblings. She had a big day being the model of what a Meishan piglet represents and now it’s time for her to snuggle up next to everyone.
*she & her carrier never touched the ground, she was never pet or held, she remained isolated with our hay, her feed, and on a table under our canopy. She chatted it up with kids, built a tunnel in the hay, showed her perfect pig snout and did all the things we love about her. Tomorrow we’ll show our appreciation with some apple slices.

All day today people wanted to name our Meishan pig…NutriMill just unknowingly named her for us with their amazing kindness. Thank you Bosch because I KNOW this mixer is the best of the best.
Her name is Bosch. She will be registered with the American Meishan Breeders Association as Bosch.

The house is asleep, the farm is dark and peaceful. I’ve been awake since about 3:40. Now I am enjoying the coffee with my local dairy goodness to start my day right.

I rely so heavily on my fellow farmers for the things I cannot grow and sometimes the things I do not want to grow.

As I prepare for what I expect to be another amazing day at the Homesteaders Of America Community I am reminded how much we all need one another.

We can gain the skills (and we should), we can prepare for the apocalypse, we can stock up, stash away, grow our own, be homemakers or however you want to view it, but I assure you survival is much different than thriving. We can survive alone, we can thrive as a community.

I can survive off of black coffee, but I can thrive off local honey, good coffee, and local dairy in the morning.

As you embark on this day don’t take for granted what your neighboring farms can bring to the table. Don’t take on the whole project and sacrifice living a fulfilling life to try to do it all, instead rely on one another and be the community we were always designed to be. Your coffee might taste better and your mornings might thank you for it.

All day I wanted to take a picture and took almost zero! I had this one moment today where I took a couple pictures. These pics somehow sums up the day. How does one pic sum up a day you might ask…COMMUNITY.

These 2 farms came down to support the Meishan breed, support my farm, and support their own farms.

I hope we represented the Meishan community well and I hope we each represented our farms and how we can all work together to help one another. In addition to that we had some wonderful special guests that I was so happy to see & finally meet face to face. Thank you for taking the time to stop by my booth, it truly means a great deal to me. I was busy today. The booth was busy today, but I saw every single face even if I didn’t get to chat or chat long. To know you came to say hello or support our farm and our mission lets me know once again, that I’m a part of the best community there is.

I’m excited to welcome some to my farm to show how we do things and why we’re proud of our operation, even if it is a hot mess of chaos. I’m excited to refer some of you, not because I don’t want to work with you, but because I know others can be more local to you and be a better part of your community. I’m excited to offer some of you our farm for your table to serve your family & friends.

We’re a community building a better place for us all to thrive in with a farm/homestead/ranch/hobby farm we can all stand behind and I’m humbled to be a part of it.

Thank you Twin Willow Homestead for coming from Pennsylvania to support this amazing event and represent your farm, the Meishan breed, and be there to help us tremendously. Thank you Firefly Homestead for driving all the way from Ohio to show up for the breed, your farm and our farm. I’ve been able to lean on you two farms today and have you speak your knowledge, experience, and passion to everyone that stopped by. I’ve been able to know that we’ve got the support to make our farms thrive, the Meishan breed thrive, and our individual areas of focus thrive.

This has been a wonderful day and we look forward to yet another day at the Homesteaders Of America Community.

I’ve put in hours of work over the past week and honestly over months. I’ve put in so much thought and consideration for this upcoming event.

Several months ago I paid a hefty fee to participate, I got the license to attend and I marked it on the calendar.

I bought more supplies than my poor farm bank account should have.

I did this all on a hope and dream. The idea behind me attending the Homesteaders of America conference is that all farms are homesteads even if they grow bigger. We’re all feeding our family something we can stand behind and something we believe is better than the big distribution companies.

You see, this is in our backyard. Not literally, but the location is about 30 minutes from our farm. So, in all accounts this is MY community. This is the community I want to serve to the best of my ability.

I thought long and hard on what I could do, what I should do, and what I could actually afford to do. Cost always plays a role like it or not.

I had so many obstacles stand in my way…MAJOR ones! Ones that cost us significantly financially and ones we weren’t even responsible for.

I hope I’ve planned, I hope I’ve commited my time and my energy and my resources to the right things. I hope I have done all I can to honor the mission for my farm and what I do and I hope tomorrow I represent Pig Wing Farms well. I hope I convey to my community what we are doing and why we are doing it and how we want to work with you. I hope I can make you all believe in our farm. I also hope I can learn from you all how we can bring to your tables and your farms what you want to see and what you value.

If you’re my Virginia community please stop in and see us. If you’re my neighboring community please stop in and see us. If you’re my long lost west coast, southwest, desert dwelling, Pacific Ocean community come to our booth and say hello. We want to see you ALL and say hi and learn from you on what you value and hear your thoughts on what we’ve got going on.

I gave it my all, I really did. I can only hope all I had to give was what you all deserved. I’m excited, I’m going to be tired but I hope you never know it! I hope to greet you all with smiles, joy, and laughter as we conquer the weekend that I’ve had in the books for months now.
