The story behind Maid Strong Cleaning Service
During a Women’s Church meeting, I heard heartbreaking stories from my sisters in Christ who work for home-cleaning and janitorial services right here in Wichita. I decided to find out more about the issues women working in the home cleaning business face.I surveyed several women who work for different companies. Please allow me to share with you what
I learned:
-Substandard working conditions are pervasive.
-Hours of work are not registered accurately.
-These women work for long, hard hours and their compensation is far below the legal minimum.
-Many of these women are working seven days per week, for just $50 per day.
-These women are owed overtime and compensation for denied mileage and gas reimbursement.
-Unfortunately, many companies pay workers in cash, skirting tax laws, workers' compensation insurance rules, and other required benefits.
- Women who complain frequently get fired. Therefore they do not complain because they are afraid they will lose their job. In my view, companies that do not register work hours are exploiting workers - intentionally or unintentionally - by not documenting all work hours some hours "slip through the cracks". Payment irregularities could mean workers are not paid as per their labor. For instance, some employees work without a fixed pay schedule. Then they cannot plan payment of bills, rent, and other living expenses because they don't know when they will be paid. God tells us through James that “the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, are crying out against you, and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts” (James 5:4). God is not happy when his children are exploited or taken advantage of. Employers ultimately will answer to God for that. It is nothing less than robbing an employee if they are not being paid what is due. My heart broke for these hardworking, honest, God-fearing women of God. These are my sisters in Christ! So, what should I do when God breaks my heart? I knew I had to pray and pray some more! As I prayed for these special ladies, my mind momentarily wandered to the story of the Good Samaritan. Am I my brother's (sister’s) keeper? Is that what this is all about? I began to question God. "What exactly are you asking me to do here?" Because I know that when God begins to break your heart over something, he is also asking you to be part of the answer. After much time in prayer and seeking the counsel of family and friends, I decided to start a new ministry of a home cleaning business! I started this journey with three lovely Christian women that are extremely hard working and dedicated. It is their stories that God used to birth Maid Strong. I look forward to the ways God will move, the friends/community this will bring, and the lives of women and families that will be blessed. God has blessed me with a vision, and I intend to make the most of it and serve Him and others as best I can. As a Maid Strong Client when you walk into your cleaned home you will know the women who cleaned it are valued and treated with dignity and respect. Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. We are made strong in Christ! To God be the Glory as this journey begins! Mission Statement: We seek to honor God by impacting the lives of our customers, employees, and community and treat everyone as Christ would treat them. In His Strength,
