Our thoughts and prayers are with those, who are experiencing impacts and damage, from Hurricane Idalia.
Please remember, if you know or speak to people, from the affected and damaged areas, especially where land fall occurred, DO NOT ask them next week if they are getting back to normal.
The answer to that question, a week after a hurricane, is NO.
They have a new normal for a while, especially those who lose their homes and all other possessions. We are thankful for those who lived, will be saddened over any deaths which occurred as that information comes out in the days ahead.
You will add to their after hurricane stress and anxiety, by acting like they should be back to normal quickly. It will take months, if not years, to get back to normalcy.
After hurricane Michael, people as close as Panama City Beach acted like we, in Mexico Beach and would be back to normal. That's what they asked and some didn't even know about it, at all.
We still live in a travel trailer, but got my grandmother, thank God, back into her home, by the end of July, 2020, nearly 2 years after hurricane Michael. Normal is going to be strived for, but it may not be there for many affected, for several years.
So please, for the sake of those affected, realize rebuilding, insurance claims, and things of that nature, not to mention debris clean up, tear downs, etc., take time. It will not be an over night rebuild like nothing ever happened. Be respectful of the anxiety most of them are already feeling and will feel for a long time to come over storms, especially bad ones and seeing stores enter the Gulf. After something like this, you tend to think with every one, you could be a target, again.
