Odorous house ants.
These fellows are one of the most difficult pest to deal with, as they are highly mobile, very small and have large colonies. Most colonies are polygenic, meaning they can have multiple queens, and tens of thousands of workers. They do not have traditional nests, they are opportunistic nesters, so they will move to food or water is close or they will move if they feel threatened. Treating for them can be time consuming and frustrating. We approach control of these ants with multiple methods.
They become more active as the sun starts to warm our homes in the spring and that is the best time to start the process of control, when they are active.
Many times people see 1-10 in the spring one year, spray or set out bait stations, and stop seeing them and assume they have gotten rid of them, only to have more and more each new year. Our recommendation is if you see just a few, call us to help prevent the colonies from becoming larger.
