I went to clean some carpets like any other day
Clean some dirt, remove some stains, it’s how I earn my pay
The old man greeted me warmly then I set about my tasks
Knowing he would want to talk and had questions he would ask
“My kids they want this cleaned,” his eyes half filled with tears
“Do you think it will come clean? It’s not been cleaned in years”
“You see I have to move now alone I cannot stay”
“I’ve made it almost ten years though since my wife she passed away”
“Nail polish there” he said, as I worked on the first stain
“My baby girl’s wedding day” he proudly did proclaim
“And that one there is paint from a train set I suppose”
“And that there is blood from my son’s twice broken nose”
Each spot it had a story every stain a tail to tell
I must say I took my time so I could hear them well
As I loaded up to head back in I shook his hand with ease
For I was not cleaning carpets
But an old man's memories
