This will be a long post so for those who don’t want to read the whole thing, we are closing up shop, sort of…
Almost 6 years ago, Dan started our business for added income. We worked our full time jobs and then cleaned nights and weekends. In 2018, I quit a job I loved, because I didnt feel I was being fairly compensated for the work I was doing. 6 months later, I really disliked the job I took for more money. I texted Dan that I put my notice in and would start residential cleaning to make up for it. I busted ass, changing clothes and eating meals in my van between new client meetings and cleanings. From word of mouth, I quickly became busy and it was great! For the most part, I was a solo cleaner and built excellent relationships with my clients. One year later, Covid hit and I was forced to stay home with our kids. At that time we decided we would make it “permanent” after our baby was born in July and continue with commercial accounts on nights and weekends. Most of you know, we had many employees come and go. Most didn’t work out, but we had a handful that were amazing and made our life so much easier. We started losing interest in growing the business because it was too hard to pick up the slack of the “bad” employees. We decided to just keep what we could personally do, with a few hours given to others.
This was a dream come true… until it wasn’t anymore. We now look back and see all the nights and weekends we missed with the kids. Taking a vacation, even a weekend away, was almost non existent. If we missed a cleaning due to being out of town, holidays, or sickness, we didn’t charge the client, therefore we didn’t get paid. We went all in on a carpet van and Dan quit his full time job. It was great until one of our biggest clients dropped us and we no longer had guaranteed income. Life happens, no hard feelings. A business needs to do what’s best for them.
Dan has been in the safety field for 7 years and when an opportunity came for him to be employed by someone else again, it was too good to turn down. We never realized how great full benefits were, until we didn’t have them anymore.
I (Tiffany) will still be doing the few residential and commercial cleanings that I have, until I physically can’t anymore. My back issues started again 2 years ago, only this time I’m told it’s degenerative disc disease. The only thing we can do for that is keep myself comfortable until I die 🥴
Sooo, if you know anyone looking to start a new floor cleaning company, or a cleaning company wanting to add that service, please share with them! Even a property management company could benefit from it. We will be selling the van and all the tools needed to get started. It’s dang near brand new so doesn’t get better than that!
We will still be taking a select few carpet cleanings until it sells, including everyone in HOPE that is on our list. Please feel free to reach out with any cleaning questions. Our friends Ismar and Nejla with FM's Sweepin' Clean Services, who also offers floor cleaning is amazing! They’re helping us with the accounts we dropped, making the transition so much easier. It’s great to have people we trust to refer you to.
In all honesty, we are just burnt out.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to all those that helped make this “side gig” a bigger success than we thought it could be. You’re all appreciated so much!
