What Is a Ceramic Coating? And Is It Worth It?
Many people think a ceramic coating is just an expensive wax.
It's not.
A professional ceramic coating is a liquid nanotechnology product that chemically bonds to your vehicle's clear coat, creating a durable, glass-like protective layer. Stronger than any wax you can buy.
What Does That Mean?
Your vehicle's paint is covered by a thin, soft layer called the clear coat. Over time, this clear coat is exposed to:
βοΈ UV rays
π§ Road salt & Brake dust
π¦ Bird droppings
π² Tree sap
π£οΈ Road grime
β‘ Scratches
π§ͺ Environmental contaminants
These contaminants slowly break down your paint and make it harder to keep clean.
A ceramic coating adds an additional sacrificial layer of protection over your clear coat.
The Science Behind Ceramic Coatings
Most professional ceramic coatings contain Silicon Dioxide (SiOβ) and sometimes Titanium Dioxide (TiOβ).
When properly applied, these nanoparticles create a cross-linked molecular structure that bonds to the vehicle's surface.
This changes the surface energy of the paint, creating a highly hydrophobic and very strong finish.
In simple terms:
π§ Water beads up
π§ Dirt sticks less
π§ Cleaning becomes easier
π§The Ultimate protection
π§ The vehicle stays cleaner longer
π§ Harder to scratch
Why Does Water Bead?
Water naturally wants to spread out across most surfaces.
Ceramic coatings create an extremely slick surface that water and other contaminants struggle to stick to.
Instead of flattening out, water forms tight beads and rolls away, taking dirt and contaminants with it.
What Ceramic Coatings DO Protect Against
β
UV damage and oxidation
β
Road grime
β
Bird droppings (when removed promptly)
β
Tree sap
β
Water spots (reduced)
β
Chemical contaminants
β
Light wash-induced marring
β
Easier maintenance
β
Enhanced gloss and depth
What Ceramic Coatings DO NOT Protect Against
β Deep scratches
β Accidents
β Key marks
β Improper washing
β Neglect
A ceramic coating is not bulletproof.
Think of it as armor for your paint, not a force field.
Why Proper Installation Matters
The coating is only as good as the surface underneath it.
Before we install a ceramic coating, the vehicle should be:
β Thoroughly detox washed
β Chemically decontaminated
β Clay barred
β Machine polished when necessary
β Surface prepped with an alcohol-based paint prep
Only then is the coating applied.
After application, the coating is leveled to remove high spots and ensure an even layer before it cures.
This step is critical.
A properly installed ceramic coating should appear crystal clear, not hazy or streaky.
Benefits You'll Notice Immediately
β¨ Incredible gloss
β¨ Easier washing
β¨ Better water beading
β¨ Reduced maintenance
β¨ Longer-lasting protection
β¨ Enhanced depth and shine
β¨ Better resale appearance
Many customers tell us the biggest benefit isn't the shine...
It's how much easier their vehicle is to keep clean and it has other benefits such as if you hit a deer the insurance company will pay us to reinstall the ceramic coating after the body work has been completed and the paint has fully cured!!!!
Is a Ceramic Coating Worth It?
If you care about protecting your investment and keeping your vehicle looking its best for years to come, the answer is YES!!!
A professional ceramic coating helps preserve the appearance of your vehicle while making maintenance significantly easier.
Your vehicle is one of the largest purchases you'll make.
Protecting it simply makes sense.
