Twenty-four years ago, the world stood still as we witnessed an act of terror that forever changed the course of history. We remember the 2,977 innocent lives taken from us in New York City, at the Pentagon, and in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. They were parents, children, friends, and colleagues whose stories were tragically cut short.
We also honor the extraordinary bravery of the heroes who emerged from the smoke and chaos. The first respondersβfirefighters, police officers, and paramedicsβwho ran toward danger without a second thought, and the everyday citizens who became heroes aboard Flight 93. Their courage in the face of unimaginable horror stands as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit.
In the days that followed, a spirit of unity and compassion swept across the nation and the world. Today, let us not only mourn the lives lost but also remember the strength and solidarity that bound us together. We will never forget.
