Raccoon Eviction: Best Method This Time of Year
This time of year, the best approach is usually humane eviction, especially when there is a possibility of a mother raccoon with babies in the attic, soffit, chimney, or under a deck.
✔️ Start with a thorough inspection
Locate all entry points.
Determine if babies are present.
Use cameras when possible to confirm activity.
✔️ One-way eviction doors
Allow raccoons to leave but prevent them from re-entering.
Most effective when installed on the primary entry point after confirming babies are not left behind.
✔️ Baby reunification when needed
If a mother has kits, remove the babies safely and place them in a warm reunion box near the entry point.
The mother will typically relocate them to an alternate den site.
✔️ Seal and repair
Once all raccoons are out, immediately seal entry points and repair damage.
Delaying repairs often results in re-entry or a new raccoon moving in.
⚠️ Important: Eviction doesn't always work. Some raccoons become extremely determined, especially mothers with young. In those cases, trapping and removal may be the next step after evaluating the situation.
