Good afternoon followers of NWM! We hope that you have all been enjoying the Alaskan summer this season! (At least we have had one to some extent this year!)
It has come to our attention that when a bing search of our name is made, our business shows as being permanently closed. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY INACCURATE!!! We are open, have never closed and have no plans to.
Our understanding of cyberspace and all things related is limited so we have no explanation for this. We are enjoying what may be our busiest season in our history and we have you to thank for it. We would not exist if it were not for you, the folks that we are privileged to help and serve. Many, many thanks!
With growth comes growing pains and we are going through some challenges but we look forward to taking them on with a mindset of moving forward to offer you the best service that we possibly can offer.
Thank you so much for all of your support over the last two decades! We are humbled and grateful for all of you.
Keep it wild and we will do our best to keep it outside!

This is the squirrel trying to decide if he wants to come out of the hole we made. We have to make it a little smaller so he does not get out too quickly and surprise us!

After thinking this little guy was stuck inside the ductwork of a kitchen range exhaust fan for nearly five days, we were finally able to pinpoint his location. He was actually stuck inside an interior wall! He was very happy to get out and be released to a much more suitable home!

Special thanks to Christie and Diane for your help!

Freedom!

Normally when we release a squirrel they run directly up a tree. This guy was so hungry, he stopped for a bite to eat!

So thirsty! How long was he stuck?!?

05/11/2024

Here we are using a scope to see if we are in the same channel as the squirrel. Success! This squirrel found our camera and began exploring it!

05/11/2024

This was the sound of the squirrel as he was attempting to climb out of the wall cavity. We came back several days later to rescue two additional juvenile squirrels that got stuck in the same wall!

This little guy was glad to get out of the wall of this townhome. He had fallen down an interior wall and wore himself out trying to climb back out. ***Interior walls seldom have insulation so animals are fighting against a smooth surface to climb up and occasionally are unable to. This is especially true of juvenile squirrels because their claws have not fully developed.

The 'cave rescue' was a success and this adult male squirrel was very glad to get some much needed water and later released into a more suitable environment.

We perform this service every year in homes, especially in the spring and early summer with litters of young being the ones that most often get stuck.

After they are mobile, juvenile red squirrels usually begin exploring the roof space (where they are typically born) getting too close to an interior wall and slipping down inside the cavity. If the female is still nursing the young, she will go back and forth to feed them but once weaned, she will leave them (or kick them out... if they can get out!) to fend for themselves. This is where we come in...

Hearing the sound of little bodies rise and fall as they attempt to climb out of the wall cavity can be a little disconcerting. Combine this with some sibling rivalry that usually comes in the form of bickering, and you have a situation that needs some attention.

We show up, pinpoint the location of the animals and begin the extraction process. We simply cut a hole in the wall and wait (sometimes for extended periods!) for the family (or in this case, the stressed individual) to begin their escape from urban bo***ge. Once we are confident everyone is out, we take them to their natural habitat far, far away so that they will not return.

This little one was hanging out (literally) in a fireplace in the Willow area after inadvertently coming down the chimney. After performing its Santa Claus impersonation, it decided to snooze the day away. Little Brown Bats (Myotis Lucifigus) are common in southcentral Alaska. The best natural insect control you can imagine, these amazing mammals consume crazy amounts of insects every night! Watch the night sky and see if you can spot one of the most unique animals that calls Alaska home!

Here it is! The only Amphibian to occur north of the Arctic Circle and it's capable of freezing solid! This "where is it" was our most difficult to find. We took the picture and it still took us a long time to find the well camouflaged wood frog! Stay safe and warm!
