🛋️ Would you expect to find a bed bug on your living room couch?

That's exactly where this one was found.

Most people think bed bugs only live in beds, but the truth is they'll hide anywhere people spend time sitting or sleeping. Couches, recliners, upholstered chairs, mattresses, bed frames, headboards, nightstands, baseboards, and even tiny cracks around furniture can all become hiding places.

During the day, bed bugs stay tucked away in the smallest crevices they can find. At night, they emerge to feed before disappearing again, making them incredibly difficult to locate without a thorough inspection.

They're also expert hitchhikers. A single bed bug can make its way into your home on luggage, clothing, backpacks, used furniture, or other personal belongings. Once established, they reproduce quickly and become much harder to eliminate.

At Western Pest Control, we don't just treat what you can see—we perform detailed inspections to locate where bed bugs are hiding and use proven treatment methods designed to eliminate the entire infestation.

If you've spotted something suspicious or are waking up with unexplained bites, don't wait for the problem to grow. We're happy to inspect it and help you determine the best next step.

🐜 **Why are we putting out TWO different ant baits?**

Because not all ants want the same meal.

One of the techniques we use at Western Pest Control is something we call **"Bait & Wait."** Instead of guessing, we offer ants multiple bait options and then watch which one they prefer.

In this video, the choice is pretty obvious—they're overwhelmingly choosing one bait over the other.

That matters because ants can be surprisingly picky. Depending on the species, the time of year, and what the colony needs, they'll often favor one food source while ignoring another. By letting the ants tell us what they want, we can use the bait they're most likely to carry back to the colony, where it does the most good.

It's one of those small details that separates a professional **Integrated Pest Management (IPM)** approach from simply putting down product and hoping for the best.

Sometimes the smartest part of pest control isn't what you apply—it's knowing when to stop, observe, and let the insects show you the answer.

If ants are becoming a problem around your home or business, we'd be happy to help.

💧 Why Are Earwigs Suddenly Showing Up Inside?

If you've been seeing more earwigs around your home lately, you're not alone.

Here in Southern Utah, we've had an unusual combination of heavy monsoon moisture and 110°+ temperatures. Earwigs love damp environments, but when their outdoor hiding spots become too wet or too hot, they start looking for cooler, more protected places... often inside your home.

You'll most commonly find them:
🏠 Bathrooms
🚪 Around doors and windows
🧺 Laundry rooms
📦 Garages
🌿 Near mulch, flower beds, and other moist landscaping

The good news? Earwigs are mostly nuisance pests. They don't spread disease, and despite the myths, they're very unlikely to pinch people. The bad news is that favorable weather conditions can cause their populations to increase quickly.

Here are a few ways to help keep them outside:
✔️ Reduce excess moisture around your foundation.
✔️ Avoid overwatering landscaping near the home.
✔️ Remove piles of leaves, mulch, and other debris against the house.
✔️ Maintain a professional exterior pest barrier.

If earwigs are becoming regular guests, we'd be happy to help. A professional inspection can identify why they're getting in and keep them where they belong—outside.

🐜 This is why we don't just spray ants... we outsmart them.

Think Austin is crazy for letting ants eat bait right out of his hand? 😅

What you're watching is exactly what we want ants to do.

Ant bait isn't designed to kill them instantly. Instead, worker ants happily feed on it and carry it back to the colony, where they share it with the rest of the nest—including the queen. That's how you eliminate the source of the problem instead of just the ants you can see.

🚫 Spraying every ant on sight often scatters the colony and can make the infestation even harder to eliminate.

✅ A properly selected bait targets the colony where it matters most.

At Western Pest Control, we don't just treat the symptoms—we solve the problem at its source.

If you're seeing ants marching through your home after the recent rains, don't wait for the colony to grow.

🐜 Think you're just seeing a few ants? Think again.

What you're watching isn't random ant activity...

This colony is budding—one of the ways ants expand and establish new nests. Worker ants are carefully transporting their eggs, larvae, pupae, and even winged reproductives (alates) to a new location. It's a well-organized move, and every ant has a job.

When ants reach this stage, it usually means the colony is healthy, growing, and looking for more space. Unfortunately, that can mean they're moving closer to—or even into—your home.

🚨 If you're seeing trails like this around your foundation, landscape, or inside your home, it's a sign that the colony is thriving—not disappearing.

The good news? Professional treatment targets the colony before it becomes an even bigger problem.

If ants have started taking over your property, give Western Pest Control a call today.
