Rare sight.

By the end of the week this floor disappears under the first cutting and won't surface again until next spring. Right now it's just brooms, loose hay, and the kind of quiet that doesn't happen twice a year.

This is one of several enclosed storage barns we run — 20,000 square feet of humidity-controlled space, with additional air barns for bulk capacity. Nothing we sell sits in a field hoping for dry weather.

There's a reason Chicagoland horse people who've shopped around end up at Galusha. Tested cuttings, varieties matched to your horse, low-NSC options for the metabolic and laminitis-prone, and we'll hold your order and deliver on your schedule.

Call 630-777-6179 to reserve, put an order on hold, ask about varieties, or request testing before you commit.

Nobody around here makes hay like we do — but if you've shopped elsewhere, you probably already figured that out.

The baler just came out of surgery.

New bearings, new pickup teeth, new knotters, fresh knife, all-new sliding wear pieces. Eleazar signed off this morning — she's ready to roll.

Tight, square bales don't happen by accident. They happen because the knotters hold, the knife cuts clean, and the pickup teeth grab every stem off the windrow.

That's what shows up at your barn — bales that stack right, hold their shape under weight, and feed out clean.

Our Quality Promise starts here, in the shop, with the parts you'll never see.

🌾 Better Storage = Better Hay Quality

At Galusha Farm, we’ve developed a storage system designed to help protect hay quality year-round — because wasted hay costs you money.

Here’s how our process works:

✔️ Hay is stored inside sealed ag storage bags
✔️ Plastic barrier help protect against birds, mice, and raccoons
✔️ Pallets create airflow underneath the hay
✔️ Fans circulate fresh air throughout the bag to help maintain proper curing and storage conditions
✔️ Flexible storage means we can keep up with demand and maintain quality

The result? Cleaner, protected hay with less waste and more peace of mind for you.

📞 Reserve your hay early and we’ll store it for you at no additional fee until you’re ready for delivery or pickup.

Quality hay. Protected storage. Year-round availability.

Does your horse have metabolic syndrome or laminitis risk? Then you already know how stressful feeding time can be.

At Galusha Farm, we grow hay — and we also own and board horses. So we feed what we grow. Every. Single. Day. That means low NSC isn't a marketing term for us. It's personal.

NSC stands for Non-Structural Carbohydrates — the sugars and starches in hay that can spike insulin and trigger laminitis in sensitive horses. Vets typically recommend keeping NSC under 10–12% for metabolic horses. Right now, our tested inventory ranges from just 4.04% to 10.39% NSC across 13 different hay samples — including our alfalfa mixed hay, which surprises a lot of people. Yes, even our alfalfa is low sugar. That's not just about hay type — it's about how it's made.

We understand that cutting time, field conditions, plant maturity, and curing all affect NSC levels. We don't leave that to chance.

✅ Hay analysis available on many of our fields
✅ We offer testing of any hay in our inventory
✅ 5 hay types in current inventory — something for every horse

21 fields.

That’s how many fields our guys are walking right now—by hand—picking up garbage before hay season even begins.

Bottles. Cans. Plastic. Things that don’t belong anywhere near a hay field… or the animals that depend on it.

This is the reality of farming near roads and growing communities. It’s not the easy part of the job—but it’s one we take seriously.

Because quality hay doesn’t just happen at harvest. It starts now.
And it means making sure what ends up in your bale is exactly what should be there—nothing more, nothing dangerous.

We’re proud of the work our crew puts in every single season to do things the right way—even when it’s the hard way.

We’d love to say “keep it clean out there”… because it matters more than most people realize.

(And hey—we’ve got 21 fields if anyone’s feeling ambitious 😉)

❄️ Cold winter = hungry horses! ❄️

When temperatures drop, horses eat more just to stay warm. That means extra hay—way more than you might think. Some suppliers are already running short, and first cutting isn’t until May. If you’ve underestimated your winter supply, now’s the time to plan ahead.

At Galusha Farm in Warrenville, we’ve got small squares, large squares, and wrapped round bales—all stored inside and ready to go. Low-sugar? Yep, we’ve got that too. Need help getting it home? We make it easy.

And about that 21-bale bundle we loaded into the van? Square on square. Just a quiet little “look what we did” moment for the team to laugh about later.

Don’t get caught short this winter. Stock up now, keep your horses happy and healthy, and enjoy the peace of mind that comes with knowing you’re covered until the first cutting in May.
