Scorpions spend much of their time tucked away in protected areas, especially around clutter, cracks, landscaping materials, garages and other places that provide cover. They can also slip into buildings through small openings around doors, windows and other entry points.

One habit worth adopting: check before you reach. Give shoes, gloves, towels, boxes and items left on the ground a quick look before picking them up, especially around areas where scorpions have been active.

Seeing Ants? Follow the Trail.
