We have been blessed to miss most of hurricane Dorian. Although, due to Dorian, we are behind on pool service this week. We are back to work today and we are working to get them back to normal as soon as possible!

Pre Hurricane Tips for Your Swimming Pool

7. If you have one, protect your screen enclosure. The best way to protect a screen enclosure is to remove some panels on opposite sides of the cage. By removing them, they can be replaced after the storm. If you can’t remove them, then slice them with a knife. It is better to replace the panels than to find your screen enclosure laying in your pool after the storm.

6. Add some extra chlorine to the pool. Several inches of rain and leaves and branches can make a pool look like a swamp. Adding some extra chlorine can help to minimize this.

5. Do not cover the pool. A cover will not keep debris out of the pool. Large branches and other flying objects will pe*****te the cover and still enter the pool, and your expensive pool cover will be ruined.

4. Remove all lose items around the pool. Loose items include skimmer lids, toys, furniture, or anything that could become a projectile in a storm. All of these items should be brought inside during a storm. The last place to protect furniture is to place it in the pool. Furniture in the pool can damage the pool finish and cause staining.

3. Do not drain the pool. Removing water from the pool increases its chance of floating. This is when the hydrostatic pressure of the ground water can cause the pool to pop up out of the ground. If the pool pops up just six inches it will snap every piece of plumbing going to and from the pool. Pools are designed to drain into their surrounding territory. The best thing to do is to leave them alone till after the storm. Remember, it is easier to remove water from the pool after the storm than to add it. And it is also cheaper.

2. Wrap and protect pool equipment. Wrapping your pool pump in plastic is a great way to keep blowing sand from entering into the motor, and it can also help to protect it from flooding.

Pre Hurricane Tips for Your Swimming Pool
1. Turn off the power to the pool equipment. Letting the pump run during a storm will allow the pump to suck in rain and blowing sand into the pump motor. This can cause irreparable damage to the pump. The best thing to do is shut off the power at the breaker so there is no chance of it coming back on until after the storm.
