The entrance of your home is considered to be the “mouth of chi” meaning … it’s where all the good energy comes in!
Walking in the door and tripping over shoes and dropping your purse on the floor is definitely not the f*ckin vibe.
Here’s a few tips to help you design a space that’s beautiful, functional AND good Feng shui!
- a nice large rug or mat at the entrance, anchors the space. Pay attention to the direction of the mat (a runner leading into the space will hasten the energy … you want to slow it down so sideways is usually best!)
- you should have a table or ledge to place things like a purse, keys, hat within a few steps of your entrance. Otherwise … it’s gonna end up dropped in the way (or where you can’t find it). I love a nice entrance table for this
- baskets are a wonderful way to store mitts toques and dog leashes without looking like clutter. I have a basket for each of us - it’s easy to find and easy to put away
- add some interest to the walls so that your eyes (and the energy) has a chance to hang around and stay a while … it’s its own space, treat it as such
- mirrors in the entrance can do wonders in making the space seem larger than it is! Remember last weeks tip … pay attention to what the mirror reflects and don’t place it opposite the door! (you don’t want the chi to enter and bounce right back out).
- place an affirmation in this space so that everyone who enters receives that blessing of energy. Something like “may everyone who enters be blessed with health, happiness and abundance” placed under the entrance rug can be especially powerful. I have a sign that says “life is good” above my door for this purpose!
- place an item(s) in this space that would represent something you wish to bring into your life! For example, if you want more money, a pyrite crystal would be a great idea … a jade plant … a cheque for 10 million dollars like Jim Carey wrote himself 😉 . If you’re looking to bring in health … consider an item that has that feel to you and add it to your space.
More tips to come in upcoming Feng Shui Tip of the Day posts but this should get you started!
