Today we took care of some Ford motor company 16” wheels. The clear coat on these is famous for peeling, & bubbling up! Although, these ones held up pretty good for being over twenty years old!

First, we started off the sanding process at 180 grit through 800 grit to strip all of the clear coat off and get it to a nice smooth ready to be buffed finish.

Second, we used an orange medium stiffness airway and brown Tripoli (T-121 Fast Cut) to do what’s known as the “cut”. This process gets rid of all the DA sanding marks. After this step the wheel will have a nicer finish to it but not quite done yet!

Third, we move on to whats known as the “color” step. We used a yellow light stiffness airway, & the green rouge bar (G-16 Green Luster) & went over it again. This leaves the wheel with a nice shiny finish and you can stop here if you want to. Although These wheels were taken one step further!

Fourth, & lastly we use the the “EZ red show shine polish”. Apply a generous amount to a cloth towel rub it in & let it haze over for a few minutes. After that we use our white soft airway with our purple rouge (SS-510 Competition Purple) and go over it one last time. After it’s wiped down they are ready to go out the door and to the customer!!!
