"The finest mitigation crew this side of the Mississippi." 💪- Mick Nowarita, Project Manager with SCCS NWI

He's on site in Valpo at a finished basement that had a water backup, soaked drywall, soaked carpet. The fix: clear the contents, flood cut the wet drywall, pull the carpet, treat with antimicrobial, then dry it out before mold has a chance.

The culprit? No sump pump, and no backup system to catch the overflow. With these storms rolling through NWI, that's a gap worth closing before the next big rain.

This is what one failed sump pump did to a fully finished basement.

Watch the flood cut go in: we remove the soaked drywall to a set line above the water mark so the wall cavity behind it can dry out and are tearing out the floor, instead of trapping moisture and growing mold.

We've got air movers running to dry the structure underneath, because moving fast is how you stop mold before it starts.

This was all day one on site. Yesterday we showed you the start, here's the full walkthrough of the damage. The dry-out and rebuild come next, so keep following.

A finished basement in Chesterton, dry on Friday. A failed sump pump over the weekend, and now we're tearing out drywall and flooring to prevent even more damage.

The homeowners lost power this past weekend. When the power went out, the sump pump went with it, leaving water with nowhere to go but into the basement.

We're on site removing soaked drywall, pulling up damaged flooring, and beginning the drying process before moisture can spread and create bigger problems. The longer water sits, the more damage it can cause.

This is part one. Stay tuned for the progress.

Quick tip: If your basement relies on a sump pump, consider a battery backup system. One power outage is all it takes.
