The Lincoln Bookbindery in its longtime Urbana, IL location is permanently CLOSED. The equipment and Tedra's expertise have moved to Dixon Graphics in Champaign, IL at 105 W. John St., 61820. If you call the bindery number listed on this page, it will ring at Dixon Graphics. Or call Dixon Graphics directly at (217)351-6100. We have loved our customers here in this location for decades, but it's time for Chris to retire and for Tedra to continue binding work at Dixon. Your old records are moving to Dixon so Tedra will know how to consistently foil stamp covers on books that you have had us make in the past. Thank you for many very wonderful years at this location. I added the new Dixon Graphics address for our address and THAT location is OPEN. Please note that the bindery at Dixon Graphics does NOT accept any book repair or do leather work.

After 52+ years of assembling books, and 46+ years of owning the shop, I've decided it is time for me to move on. Starting March 1 ownership of this bindery will move to Dixon Graphics in Champaign, IL. Very long time co-worker Tedra will be moving with it. We are no longer accepting work at this address. Friday Feb. 21 our phone number will begin connecting to Dixon Graphics and at some point our website will move to their website. The machinery and supplies will take some time to move and set up so I would think they will be processing books around mid-March. -- Chris

It was 50 years ago today I started working for the previous owners of the bindery, Paul and Shirley Hursey. I am now entertaining suggestions for my second career. Thank you, Chris

It APPEARS that Instagram has successfully deleted the Lincoln Bookbindery's account at our request. It was taken over by someone else and posts were being made by them that we could not edit or delete. We were locked out of our own Insta account (I will not use the "H" word because it seems to bring on tons of spam for paid recovery services). Currently, the Lincoln Bindery does not have an Instagram account.

25 years ago today, this guy hired a 25 year old who came in knowing just enough about bookbinding to be dangerous (I had to un-learn some bad habits). He proceeded to teach me everything he knew about this work, about running a small business, and a lot about life. Everything he knew became everything I know and I couldn't be more grateful. This job has helped finance everything Suzanne and I have. It and my friendship with Chris have taken me to some very unexpected places (the Andretti-Green racing facility in Indianapolis where Indy cars are fine-tuned for one!) and introduced me to people I never would have met otherwise.

Chris not only taught me bookbinding, but he encouraged me to pursue whatever I wanted to try. He has been unfailingly supportive. My custom binding website, only possible because I could use all the equipment here at the bindery to make those books, has allowed me to do work for people around the world.

I came to work at the Lincoln Bookbindery when the custom black and white film processing and printing industry (my job before this one) was on the way out in the changeover to digital. The nature of the bookbinding business has changed drastically over the past 25 years and while I may not be sure what the future holds, I could not have had a better working environment for half my life than I have here or a better friend than the one I have in Chris.

THIS is the kind of order the Lincoln Bookbindery was made for. 200 hardcover yearbooks for the U of I college of Vet Med. Since students were unable to participate in commencement due to covid-19, the college decided to create a beautiful yearbook for each graduate. Printed by who are also creating a full-color dust jacket and bound by us. We need orders like this to stay in business. Very grateful for this one!

The Lincoln Bindery is open for business regular hours - 8:30 - 5:30 M-F.

We do ask that customers wear masks to enter the shop. We are wearing masks and will come to you in the parking lot if you do not wear a mask.

We are happily accepting work right now. Did you work on family genealogy during the stay-at-home order? Do you have a project (poetry, novel, memoir, that dissertation you never had bound) that you'd like to finish as a hardcover book? Is your child working on a writing or drawing project while learning at home that you would like to memorialize in book form? We're here and ready to discuss turning your work into a real, durable, lasting hardcover book. We also ship worldwide.

Today's so lovely you don't even have to touch a doorknob to enter the shop; we have the screen door open. :)
