Schmitz Sweet Syrup

We pulled taps just before Easter. Life has been busy. With washing buckets and cleaning up everything. We tapped about 530 trees this year, with 2 new woods added.

We started bottling syrup the last couple of weeks as well we have 113 gallons bottled. Not quite done yet. So we have a good amount for this year that we collected.

Here is a collection of pictures from pulling buckets, washing them up, and bottling syrup. Thanks to all our family and friends for all the help. We couldn't do this without your help each year.

Not much in the buckets today but a great day for a walk in the woods. We did get a few half buckets though. Today we brought in 116 gallons.

Come see us today at Maple Syrup Family Day. 9-4pm We have maple syrup treats, jam, apple butter, horseradish and soup and more. Say Happy birthday to Amy Foster and Andrew Schmitz too! 🎈🎉

Tonight we collected 325 gallons. Not the best night, but we had some full to overflowing buckets for the ones that had sap in them. We also saw a beautiful, bright sundog along the way. As we collected we found a few trees that didn't survive the high winds we recently had here. A few trees broke off including one we tapped. A few buckets were down, but most held on strong. We got a lovely surprise tonight. At our last place we collected, the owner was so nice, he drove the buckets out to the truck for us!

We had a very busy night, the sap was flowing and the buckets were full. We had a couple of ice chunks in some buckets. We collected 763 gallons of sap on Friday night. Thanks to family and friends for helping to collect.

We are always looking for help if you want to try it out for a night!

On Saturday we bottled 32 gallons of maple syrup. Just beating the crazy snowstorm that night! We fired up with a mix of apple and peach wood. The smallest crew member was there to help out and the newest member stopped out to see how it works!
