๐Ÿค  Did you know one of Americaโ€™s most iconic boot companies got its start right here in Olathe?

In 1875, C.H. Hyer founded HYER Boots in Olathe, where he crafted what is widely recognized as the first cowboy boot. Long before the brand became a western legend, it was part of the fabric of our community.

HYER also shares a rich history with the Johnson County Old Settlers celebration. Founded in 1898 to honor the pioneers who built our community, Old Settlers has grown into one of Kansasโ€™ longest-running traditions. HYER was an early supporter of the event, participated in the parade for decades, and continues to celebrate its Olathe roots today.

One detail that stood out to me: HYERโ€™s original factory stood in Olathe for many years before it was destroyed by fire, and the remaining building was later lost during urban renewal. Itโ€™s a reminder of both the rich history weโ€™ve preserved and the pieces of our past weโ€™ve lost along the way.

Our cityโ€™s history is filled with stories like this, where local innovation, entrepreneurship, and community traditions helped shape not only Olathe, but the American West.
