The holidays are upon us! RCT would like to help you with some great housekeeping tips/ tricks this season! This post will be lengthy, but we will cover vacuums, mops, and household cleaners that we recommend as a Clean Team! 🧽
Vacuums- as a housekeeper I’ve used every one you can find or buy. From $20-$500. There is only one kind of vacuum that I will recommend- and that’s a Shark DuoClean. There are SEVERAL models that range from basic to advanced on plug-in. They also offer cordless models. You should choose your model based on your household needs and demands, but I will list a handful of recommended models in the comments.
Mops- HUGE fan of a spin mop. My favorite is the O-Cedar 1 tank system; however, this is ONLY useful for single household use. They do not keep up with the demand that a housekeeper needs in multiple homes. Most mop systems will do what needs done.. however there are a few that I will NEVER recommend. 1. NEVER EVER buy a swiffer mop (wet) system.. not the spray one, vacuum one, or even wet pad one. They do NOT clean your floors, a residue is left behind and it will take multiple mops with a good system to remove that gunk. So just trash it.. yesterday. 2. The O-Cedar TWO tank system should NEVER be used in a home with more than 1 hard floor room/ area. This is the biggest marketing scam to ever hit the market. The mop head is tiny and once your dirty mop head touches the “clean water”.. well, it’s dirty water. And it doesn’t hold much “clean water”. So please don’t buy that for you 2,000 sq ft home 🙂 3. Steam mops- recently these have gained popularity making claims of “sanitation” and “natural”. While these claims are mostly true, keep in mind they are ONLY safe for tile floors. That’s it.. nothing else. You will ruin your LVT, your linoleum floors, obviously wood floors, it will also loosen paint and glue behind “seemingly safe” surfaces. So keep that in mind!
Lastly is my favorite topic- household cleaners!! If you’ve been to the cleaning supply section at a store.. it’s overwhelming. Truth be told, you need a handful of items from that section for your entire house. You need a multipurpose cleaner (will link my favorites in comments) and/ or essential oil, spray bottle, & a magic eraser! Then roll to the first aid section and grab you some 70% isopropyl alcohol. The ratio is simple- in a bottle or a gallon jug- I just eyeball these measurements. 30% (of the container) is the 70% isopropyl alcohol, then 70% tap water, then a little splash of dish soap, multipurpose cleaner, or essential oil. Whatever your heart desires! You can mix stronger at 60%/40% if you’d like. But the 70/30 cleans and sanitizes wonderfully! It is safe for everything, even sealed stone surfaces. Works like magic on glass and stainless steel appliances, plus it’s CHEAP! You can make multiple gallons for less than $10 and use it for any surface in any room. Gone are the days and times of 25 different cleaning supplies! This is a marketing scam as well!
