🍂 Fall is here! Finally, nice weather... and the fire ants agree! 🐜

We're all ready for cooler temperatures in East Texas, but we're not the only ones enjoying the change!

Did you know that fire ants often become more active during mild fall weather? After a hot, dry summer, cooler temperatures and a little rain can bring fire ants closer to the soil surface, sometimes with fresh mounds popping up seemingly overnight.

A few fall fire ant tips:

🐜 WATCH AFTER RAINFALL. New mounds may become more noticeable, especially in lawns, playgrounds, and landscaped areas.

🐜 CHECK BEFORE OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES. Fall is perfect for yard work, football in the backyard, and outdoor gatherings. Look for mounds before setting up chairs or letting the kids play.

🐜 DON'T DISTURB THE MOUND. Kicking or mowing over a fire ant mound can send hundreds of angry ants scrambling!

🐜 THINK BEYOND INDIVIDUAL MOUNDS. Treating only visible mounds may not address other colonies in your yard. A broader fire ant management plan can provide better long-term control.

The good news? Fall can be an excellent time to tackle fire ant problems before next spring.

"The Roach that Paid No Rent"

She walked into the kitchen last night, and there he was.

A roach.

Not running.

Not hiding.

Just standing in the middle of her kitchen like he paid the mortgage.

She turned on the light.

He looked at her.

She looked at him.

And for about three seconds, neither one of them knew whose house this was.

Then he ran under the cabinet.

That's when negotiations ended. 😂🪳

Not every home project needs to be modernized.

Sometimes it just needs to be brought back to life. 🔥

This old-school wood-burning stove already had plenty of character. The heat barrier wall behind it just needed some attention.

We refinished the wall to clean up the look and give the whole stove area a fresh start, while keeping that classic wood-burning setup that fits the home.

And with cooler weather finally starting to show up in East Texas, the timing isn’t bad either.

East Texas, we’ll gladly take the rain. 🌧️🙏

After a long stretch of dry weather, this radar is a welcome sight.

If some of this rain makes it our way, though, don’t be surprised if you notice a change in pest activity afterward.

During drought conditions, insects often move closer to homes and businesses looking for moisture. Then when heavier rain finally arrives, it can displace pests from soil, mulch, drains, and other outdoor hiding places.

After the rain, you may notice more:
- Ant activity around foundations and sidewalks
- Roaches moving out of damp or flooded hiding spots
- Insects showing up around garages and entryways
- Standing water that can become mosquito habitat

And if you’ve recently had pest control done, a normal rain doesn’t automatically mean the treatment is gone. Once an exterior product has had the proper time to dry, many treatments are designed to remain effective—but timing and the specific product matter.

For now, we’re just thankful for the possibility of some much-needed rain. 🌧️

But the crowd underneath it? That’s another story. 😅

If you’ve noticed gas stations, convenience stores, and other brightly lit businesses covered in crickets lately, there’s a reason.

This time of year, field crickets can show up in large numbers—and bright exterior lights can draw them right toward buildings after dark.

Once they gather around the building, they tend to pile up near doors, sidewalks, walls, and other entry points.

A few simple things can help:
• Turn off unnecessary exterior lights when possible
• Check weather stripping and gaps around doors
• Seal cracks and openings around the building
• Keep cricket buildup cleaned away from entrances

So yes, everyone may be watching the gas prices.
