🐻 Bear activity is up — and your trash can can look a lot like an all-you-can-eat buffet.

One of the simplest ways to help? Keep trash secured overnight and wait until the morning of collection to roll your cart out.

If bear-resistant carts are available in your Apex service area, they can add another layer of protection, too. Reach out to your local Apex team to learn more about the options available near you.

We put together a few simple ways to help keep bears out of your trash — from cart storage and cleanup to some of the less-obvious things around your home that can attract wildlife.

Keeping bears out of our trash helps keep bears wild. 💚🐻

🔥 Important Reminder About Battery Safety 🔥

These photos show the aftermath of a recent fire at an Apex landfill in Steamboat that is believed to have been caused by an improperly disposed lithium-ion battery.

Thankfully, no one was injured and the fire was quickly brought under control. But incidents like this are becoming more common, and many people don't realize that everyday items like batteries and v**e pens can become serious fire hazards when thrown in the trash.

⚠️ Please DO NOT place these items in your trash or recycling cart:
🔋 Rechargeable batteries
💨 V**e pens & e-cigarettes
📱 Cell phones and tablets
🔧 Power tool batteries
⌚ Smart watches and other rechargeable electronics

When these items are crushed or damaged, they can overheat and ignite—sometimes hours after being disposed of.

How you can help:
✅ Recycle batteries at a designated drop-off location
✅ Never place batteries or v**e pens in your trash or recycling cart
✅ If you're unsure how to dispose of something, give us a call—we're happy to help.

The safety of our employees, customers, and community is our top priority. Proper battery disposal helps prevent fires and protects the people and facilities that serve our community every day.

💚 Please help us spread the word: Batteries don't belong in the trash.
