Job description
Job Tasks Could Include:
1) Analysing problems with engines and rectifying the same.
2) Carrying out routine service on the engine, including oil and filter changes.
3) Repairing or replacing faulty parts and systems.
4) Sometimes integrating new technology into the engine structure.
5) Rebuilding engines after their efficient lifetime is over.
6) Conducting performance tests on vehicle fleets, if overseeing their operation.
7) Preparing and updating records on service work conducted on engines.
Welding and cutting material if required, using arc welding or flame cutting equipment.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS NEEDED:
1) In depth understanding of diesel engines, as well as mechanics and engineering in general.
2) Good analytical and problem solving skills to find the source of problems / malfunctions and rectify the same.
3) Ability to work with hand tools, precision and other equipment.
4) Computer skills, as several diagnostic procedures and precision repairs may be carried out with the aid of computers.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:
1) A high school diploma will suffice, as most of the learning is done one the job.
2) Prefer a minimum of 2-3 years experience.
3) Certification from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is favoured.
4) Experience working with all parts of vehicles, beyond just the engine, is always beneficial.
