Tis the season for frozen pipes. When it’s gets the coldest out don’t turn down your heat, and make sure you’re properly insulated. If you’re concerned about plumbing freezing in your home, leaving a faucet or two trickling is not a bad idea. Learn about your plumbing and learn how to shut your water off in case of an emergency.

If you have a cottage that sits empty, turning down the heat is not always a good idea. In fact some insurance companies and/or policy’s have requirements about temperature settings when a home is empty. They also can have requirements around how often an empty house is entered and walked through. We have seen policy’s that require a once a week walk through.
