These shutoff valves might not look like much, but they serve an important purpose. They allow us to shut off water to certain sections of the plumbing when repairs or maintenance are needed.

Did you know copper water lines can last 50 years or more? That’s one reason copper has been used in homes for so long! Of course, water quality and how the plumbing was installed play a big part in how long it actually lasts.

Did you know natural gas has absolutely no smell? That rotten egg odor people associate with a gas leak is actually a chemical called mercaptan that’s added to help alert people when there’s a leak. Pretty interesting how something so simple can help save lives!

Not all plumbing problems are easy to spot, and sometimes what’s hiding behind the scenes tells the whole story!

Take a look at this photo! 👀 These older metal pipes have seen better days! Years of exposure to moisture and the elements have left them covered in rust and corrosion.

Over time, corrosion can weaken pipes, damage fittings, and eventually lead to leaks and costly water damage. That’s why it’s so important to keep an eye on aging plumbing before a small issue turns into a big headache!

💡 DID YOU KNOW?

Here’s a little behind-the-scenes look at one of our commercial plumbing projects!

There’s a lot more to plumbing than what you see coming out of your walls! This stage of construction involves cutting and excavating trenches, laying underground plumbing lines, and making sure everything is properly positioned before the concrete work is completed.

It’s not always the cleanest job, but it’s an important one! 💪

Did you know that underground drain lines rely on gravity to move wastewater?

That’s right! Most drainage systems don’t need pumps because the pipes are installed at a carefully calculated slope. Getting that slope right is essential! Too little slope can lead to standing wastewater and clogs, while an improper slope can cause drainage problems down the road.

Ever wonder what goes into the plumbing of a large commercial building before the walls go up and the floors are finished?

Here’s a little behind-the-scenes look at what our crew at Cogan Plumbing LLC has been working on!

What you’re seeing here is part of a commercial underground plumbing rough-in. Our crew has been busy installing and connecting the PVC drain, waste, and vent piping that will serve the building once construction is complete.

Every pipe, fitting, and connection has a purpose! Getting the layout, proper slope, and connections right is especially important because much of this plumbing will eventually be buried beneath concrete.

It’s the kind of work most people will never see once the building is finished, but it’s absolutely essential to keeping everything flowing properly for years to come!

💡 RANDOM PLUMBING FACT!

Did you know that most horizontal drain pipes aren’t supposed to be perfectly level? They actually need a slight downward slope so gravity can carry wastewater away. For many common drain sizes, that slope is just ¼ inch per foot! Too little slope can cause drainage problems, and improper slope can create issues with how waste and water move through the pipe.
