We’re Normal People, Just Like You

The question that I get asked most often is “Why open a cleaning company? What prompted you to do this?”

The answer is simple - Because I had to. I was working for a company that was as close to a corporation as you could get and still be privately owned. It was a good paying job with full benefits and some people thought I was crazy to leave there, but there was no way that I could stay and be who I wanted to be.

My wife was in an accident in 2018, and passed away in 2019 from injuries sustained in the accident. We have 2 kids, and at the time they were 5 and 15. My job required me to work a minimum of 45 hours a week and the drive was no less than 25 minutes each way. Having two parents, even two working parents made things easy, but when it was just me, getting any time off or working flex hours was next to impossible.

I spent my days working, and my evenings and weekends doing the cooking, laundry, yard work, and cleaning. That was on top of being employed full time, going to the University of Toledo full time, holding an officer position at the VFW, and being a full time parent.

My deciding factor was in January when my wife passed away, that I needed to do something different, so I could give my kids a better life. As a single parent I found a need for some help, mainly what I spent all of my free time doing, cleaning. I started researching franchises, and You’ve Got Maids came up on all of my searches. I narrowed it down to Veteran Friendly Franchises, and You’ve Got Maids still came up. That’s when I reached out to them and started digging deep and deciding if that was something I wanted to do or not. The more I learned about them and their policies and the people who own it, the less it became an option not to do it.

For me, You’ve Got Maids is a way that I can give back to the community, help support small business, employ and enable good people, and help bring a peace of mind to others. From our quality of service, to the happiness of our employees, we strive to be the best in what we do, we strive to stick out, be different, and be better than we were last time.
