DO YOU HAVE TICKS? We’ve been seeing a LOT of people panic over harmless poplar weevils because they resemble ticks at first glance. People are saying that they are showing up in a group on porches and decks, which is not common for ticks. Here’s the quick difference:
🪲 Poplar Weevil
✅ 6 legs
✅ Antennae and Snout: Weevils have noticeable antennae and a long snout; ticks have neither.
✅ Beetle with hard shell & grooves
✅ Harmless to people
✅ Usually found on trees, leaves, walls, or outdoor surfaces
🕷️ Tick
⚠️ 8 legs
⚠️ Flat, round body
⚠️ No snout or antennae
⚠️ Bites humans & animals
⚠️ Can spread diseases like Lyme disease
If it has a snout and antennae, it’s probably a weevil friend — not a bloodsucking nightmare. 😅
Here is a great website that compares ticks to look a likes so that you can determine if your property actually has ticks. Check it out!
